Reclaimed Parquet - Modern Kitchen, help !!!
Comments (39)Unless you've got hours of spare time, I would avoid reclaimed parquet. I've just spent untold hours cleaning up a mix of reclaimed parquet I had in the loft (hard bitumen) and recently lifted parquet (wet bitumen) from our old extension before it was demolished. Although you can get glues that work with bitumen, you still need to ensure the blocks are relatively flat and clean. Worst thing is, although it looked like I had more than enough, some of it was unusable due to damage, so I'm now 3-4 sq metres short, and it's proving impossible to find the correct size and wood type. I didn't have a choice as the whole ground floor is herringbone parquet, so had to match it up, otherwise I'd have gone for new, it's not much different in price to reclaimed, and you don't need to clean it or sand everything level....See MoreModern flooring trends for a stylish home
Comments (0)For a stylish and contemporary home interior, you need to think about every element of your fixtures and finishing touches so that they work together to create a sleek décor style. One area you can’t overlook is your flooring. Your flooring choices can instantly transform the whole look and feel of your room, so naturally you’ll want to know more about modern flooring trends for a stylish home. Read on to be inspired by the modern flooring options available and how we can help you achieve each of these trends. Trend: Solid wood For many homeowners, they are recognising the appeal in spending their money on the very best – and when it comes to the best in flooring, the only way to go is solid wood. Yes, it costs more to have solid wood flooring than laminate, but when you know that it’s a long-term investment in your home, you see the value rather than the cost. If you’ve decided that only the best will do in your home, allow us to introduce you to our stunning range of solid wood flooring and all its benefits – it’s authenticity, it’s durability and its incomparable style. Modern flooring trends for a stylish home Trend: Tile effect Some design-conscious modern homeowners are choosing to eschew traditional wooden flooring in favour of tile or stone options for a sleek and contemporary finish to their living space. We have listened to customer feedback and embraced these new trends to introduce a varied collection of tile effect flooring and stone effect flooring, which are both perfect for creating a lasting impression when used in any room in your home. Best paired with minimalist décor and contemporary furnishings – if this sounds like your style, then we think you’ll love this trend. Trend: Make it unique When it comes to our home interiors, we all love to put our unique twist on the décor, accessories and finishing touches, and now you can do this with your flooring choices too. We have an exclusive ‘quirky’ range of laminate flooring, which offers everything from distressed wood to art deco to monochrome patterns. If you’re looking for something unique for your home, this is where to start. Trend: Random length boards Floorboards tend to be available in either random length or fixed length, and the trend at the moment has been for random length boards, as this adds an additional layer of authenticity to your floor, making it look and feel more rustic and natural rather than a fixed length floor where everything is the same. Random length boards are more popular, however fixed length boards still have a place in the home – for example when used to create a herringbone pattern on your floor. Trend: Grey wooden flooring The white trend in home interiors has slowly been replaced with grey, and it’s still a popular choice for flooring too. One of our firm customer favourites is the Premier Select Grey Oak floor which offers a luxurious finish, a floor that’s easy to clean and maintain, and with a 20 year guarantee for years of trouble-free use. If this is a trend you want to get on board with, we can certainly help you pick the perfect grey wooden floor for your home....See MoreWooden floor for dining and kitchen
Comments (9)Hello, Your options are to choose a pre- finished product, in which case the supplier should be able to send you samples (as honeypoppet says), or buy unfinished boards - in which case you should work with your fitter to test finishes. For example, on this project we sanded down the existing boards and finished with Osmo - one coat of white and one of clear - this gives a 'wash' rather than 'paint' finish: https://www.houzz.co.uk/hznb/projects/rachel-ec1-2-bedroom-flat-pj-vj~5633340 More advice on types of wood finish here: https://absoluteprojectmanagement.com/wooden-flooring-part-2-aesthetic-choices/...See MoreFlooring question for kitchen diner - tile or engineered wood
