Beltrami (Bianco Massa) or Silestone Lagoon worktops?

Help please. Our supplier has recently informed us that they are having to replace (the quoted) Beltrami BM with Silestone (suggestion - Lagoon) for stock reasons. I have no frame of reference re whether the two are comparable - i.e. in price and quality - and wondered if anyone out there is able to help me understand the difference (if there is one)? They are both quartz composites which are engineered stone quartz. In theory they should not differ. Most companies effectively use the same suppliers for quartz which is then imported and re-branded for different companies.

We love using quartz and Silestone is a very good one, which we use on projects a lot of the time. Lagoon is available in either a polished suede finish. Prices cannot be directly compared as it rather depends on the quartz supplier and your chosen kitchen showroom and their markup (we never mark up worktops!).

If the Silestone turns out to be too expensive your showroom should be able to source an unbranded equivalent.

On a recent bathroom project we used Silestone just to cover the cistern for the WC and on a kitchen recently our customer chose Silestone Stella Blanco (see images).

Thank you so much for commenting and for your remarks/confirmation re quality. We have now seen the Silestone Lagoon in person and we think it is not right for us; we are having "partridge grey" units and they seemed a little lost in the Lagoon (which is quite grey itself), far more so than with the Bianco Massa.

If I might be cheeky, though. We've seen an alternative we really like aesthetically which is from Novaestone, which I know (from delving) is a Chinese make. Is there anything I should be wary about using the Novaestone? The Internet is full of scare stories but my own research suggests it's fine. There's just limited knowledge of it out there c.f. Silestone and the big brands.

I've just seen this thread again, my last comment was in January...but here goes although you may have finished your new kitchen by now. I'm just in the throes of doing mine. Wooden floor is a lovely choice for a cold climate but I wouldn't do wooden worktops also, too matchy matchy and think of all that work maintaining them. Here in Spain marble is definitely a thing of the past as it is not tough enough, and granite has been taken over by Silestone, although the new thing is Neolith/Dekton which is very thin but super tough (bit pricey though). My advice is neutral, neutral, neutral for the stuff that costs the most money, adding colour with the cheap stuff, ie paint, blinds, etc. Bottom line: it's your kitchen so don't listen to any of us, choose what YOU like. I don't think £9k is a small amount, but then having done many a kitchen as a property developer, we're used to shopping around. I'd buy Wickes ( January sale ), the cabinets are very well made and have a very good guarantee on them. The doors too. They have a good range with the exception possibly of the worktops. Personally I find, having tried probably all trade kitchens, magnet, howdens, ( get a trade kitchen fitter to cost it if you find one you like - they get huge discounts -seriously, up to 70-80% ), B&Q also have trade cards and there's always Homebase etc - The kitchens are lovely and I think there's just a load of snobbery around 'where you bought the kitchen from'. Get savvy and buy Trade! The worktops i'd to an independent. ( only if you can't find one in one of the above ) - otherwise you have the layout for two lots of labour. You don't need flashy Taps ( Taps are minefield ), Use the internet if you're budgeting! I wouldn't buy an American Fridge Freezer, if my daughter's is anything to go by then it's an oversized, unused food store! All it seems to do for her is encourage to buy more as it looks empty and then doesn't get used! Integrate.................better for the visuals especially in a small kitchen. If you want free standing, then buy a normal sized Fridge Freezer The last one we did, even Wickes could not beat the price of the appliances compared to Curry's. So shop online for those too and look for discount codes.

agree with comment above - call Cosentino and they can direct you either to a local kitchen showroom with worktop installed in a colour you are considering or they can tell you where you can view the slabs. i live in Ireland and visited the Cosentino warehouse in Dublin to view slabs - it certainly affected our decision making. we went for lagoon and its great - no problem with staining

mjp33: We got it thru a kitchen company I cannot recommend as they messed us up for 6 weeks getting wrong colour units or scratched ones, wrong appliances and the worktop took 6 weeks to arrive instead of 1. However the worktop independent company was based in Manchester, called 'Manchester Marble '(who also work for that kitchen company but they do private work), the worktop you see in our kitchen with installation cost us just over 2K. yes it was worth it. It adds luxury/value compare to fake, and does not react to any oils,wine or juices, unlike marble/granite. If you have any other practical Q, fire away.

I'm afraid I know very little about Novaestone, We tend to rely on the brands we know best as we can then be assured of their quality. However, if it has a good guarantee that compares with bigger brands then you should be fine. If your kitchen supplier is also supplying the worktops then you really need to use the suppliers that they are happy with. Of course you can go elsewhere for the worktops but then your kitchen supplier does not need to get involved if there are any issues. The main problem with using a worktop supplier that you are not familiar with is that some of them do not template accurately and you risk ending up with them using adhesives to conceal rather than to seal!

Perhaps in the first instance you could see if Silestone offer a worktop similar to the Novaestone you like?
