Colour of kitchen cabinets on long island -3m

We have long kitchen/diner- installing new kitchen units, there will be row of floor to ceiling units on wall and a large kitchen island in front, island will be approx 3.2m x 1m - whole room is about 6m wide.

Thinking about navy or blue for island but wondering if it will be too imposing in such a large block - a bit like this sort of look but island would be wider (and kitchen not quite so smart!)

Any comments?

I love it.... and am planning something very similar!! So much so, I’ve just saved that photo!

Our room isn’t quite as big, but thinking of a coloured island as well. I think as long as you have good lighting it’ll be fine.

I also intend to go with a light worktop to keep the room light, and a lighter coloured floor, however lots of people make darker shades work!

I think it would look really good, and remember you would have stools infront of it, so it wouldnt appear as a big block of dark colour!

As long as your current finish/paintwork is well stuck to the kitchen materials a gentle sand down will give it enough key to take on new paint. 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of top coat will be ideal. www.willowtreeinteriors.com sell Mylands paint which we have one of the most durable paints for kitchens and furniture. apply with a brush and sponge roller for best results. I wouldn't say it's close TBH. I have a sample of slaked lime and EB on a few walls! Little Greene have a lot of warm neutrals (most of which are in my kitchen drawer!) https://www.littlegreene.com/paint/colour/neutral-paint?gclid=CMzUk9zG-dMCFYK87Qodsw4BJw&p=1 their french grey is a lovely colour but can sometimes read a pinky lilac. For farrow and ball in addition to purbeck you could look at ammonite and cornforth can look lovely in a north facing room. Elephants breath can also work well but sometimes not! My landing is north facing but has a huge window and it looks a a lovely light greige. Do you have both their colour charts? I know it's expensive but I would a few samples to try at home as you never know how the colours will work. The paint normally comes out a shade or so lighter on wood. I recently read one of the pros on here saying to paint a cardboard box so you can turn it and see it in the different light. It may be worth a go if you don't have any wood as I guess it absorbs similarly. I also have railings in a couple of places and I think a lot of shades work with it.

Haugue Blue has quite green undertones to it where as Cornforth White is more red. How about going for the Cornforth White on the perimeter cabinets and Worsted on the island. It will give you a nice contrast without being too dark. This kitchen shot below shows Worsted on the base cabinets and Cornforth on the wall cabinets, the island is also in Worsted with an Oak top. As far as the image above it could well be the same colours on both perimeter and island, but how about Shadow White on the perimeter and Drop Cloth on the island?

Hi Katy, For a 25 year old kitchen, I would look at wooden and painted wooden doors. This means that when (not if) it gets damaged, you can fix it with a quick sand or a repaint. The only reason you replace a wooden kitchen is if you don't like the style any more. The formica and Linoluem will be more durable to knocks and bumps but once it's damaged, there is no repairing it. Fenix has great reviews about just applying heat and it self repairing but I've not seen it myself. It is a very different look to painted though so it depends on the feel of the room you are looking for. I'm a completely independent kitchen designer so if you want to bouce some ideas around and get an honest opinion, rather than a sales pitch, I'm very happy to have a zoom call with a cup of tea for £65/hour or parts of, we can talk about which areas to save costs in, which bits to spend on, which appliances are good or over specced.
