No idea on how to furnish our living room! Help on layout needed :)
Comments (10)In some ways it’s good to have such a large TV. Let’s face it you are sitting a very long way from it in your lovely big room! You are wondering how to make the door end of the room look used. I think we are talking trade offs with the design here, in terms of cost and layout. If you can spend a bit of money it might be worth investigating how to design a new fireplace that incorporates the TV. Sounds horrendous I know, but because you have a large tv it might work, though you’d have to be VERY careful about balance in the positioning and get specialist advice on insulating the tv from the heat from the fire. You also need to consider how much time you spend watching tv and if the upwards angle of view might give you a stiff neck from where you place the sofa...BUT... this would enable you to bring Carolina’s room layout back towards the door, making the room look more occupied, you could then also use celery girls idea to put a sort of separate more intimate seating area in the bay window - two statement chairs and a little table, maybe flanked by a pair of enormous table lamps in front of the curtains to fill the corners and highlight the curtains at night....See Moreneed help with how to furnish this space
Comments (6)I would say you’re nearly there. I think it’s quite usual to have a crisis of confidence at this stage! I think the table needs changing - the wood doesn’t work with the floor and there’s no other wood in the room. It also looks a bit lost there. Maybe a rug to anchor it might help although personally I’m not a fan of dining tables on rugs but something is needed. For me, the door being the same colour as the wall makes it more difficult as it’s such a long bare space without anything really to divide it up. So I think a sideboard / storage (maybe tall storage) along the wall to the right of the door would be good, with a mirror / artwork above if a sideboard. Some artwork behind sofa plus either tall floor lamp or floor standing plants would help. The kitchen area looks good so I don’t think anything major is needed there. You could consider some window treatment, even if just decorative to add some warmth to the space. We didn’t have any curtains or blinds on the windows / doors along the back of our bungalow for 2 years after renovating as we weren’t overlooked but when we finally chose some, it instantly made the space feel more cosy & homely, so maybe something to consider....See MoreConservatory decor and furnishing help please

Comments (5)A darker cool color (blue, green, black) on the 'head walls' will make the room more 'compact'. Or by painting the dining area a different wall color the room will be cut up in two. Keep the arch the same color as the ceiling though. And yes, some new seating will do wonders! Either a 3/4p sofa and some smaller armchairs or a corner sofa, like below. Look for a slightly longer media cabinet. Just one, so remove the table. Instead of a coffee table, place a side table next to the sofa's and/or some small stools that can double up as seating when needed. Then you might want to consider removing the volant curtains and hang more subtle honeycomb blinds and/or floor to ceiling semi transparent drapes. And remove the rug, it is too small (so is the sheepskin in the image below) and accentuates the narrow. A rug should be (nearly) as wide as the seats on it....See Moreminipie
