£90+ per sq metre for tiling?

We have just had a quote for our kitchen to be tiled. £53 per sq metre for labour, adhesive and grout. That does not include tiles so if we went for tiles at £40 per sq metre that would be over £90 in total per sq metre. That sounds excessive to me. How does anyone afford tiling? Has anyone had their kitchen tiled lately and how much did it cost you please?

A friend quoted my boyfriend £46 sq m to tile our bathroom and that was mate rates and didn’t include materials. I ended up doing it myself

Surely it depends on the tiles? Tiling with factory made tiles (large) on a newly plastered surface is different to using riven natural stone etc. Get a few quotes.

Hi, I think wood effect tiles wood work very well in the space you have for the kitchen and also be suitable for living spaces if you want to run the same floor in both spaces. I think wood effect tiles will add some 'texture' into the kitchen as you do have gloss units and therefore will stand out and have a striking effect. In terms of colour, I don't think you have to go very dark, as your worktops are dark. I would go for a mid to dark,beige-brown so you get a nice visual contrast between the two, with added warmth. We have a high gloss cashmere kitchen and decided to go for wood effect flooring. I will attach an image. Good Luck A x

Help! Porcelain tiles outside - facts v fiction

I have had first hand experience of light coloured porcelain tiles . I have 2 patios. They were laid incorrectly - the fall was too shallow . This means water stands and won’t drain. You MUST make sure the fall is right both cross and longitudinal and that there is somewhere for the water to drain . Thankfully the designer and gardener have agreed to redesign and replace 25 sq metres at their cost but it’s all been very stressful. Aside from that the tiles are filthy as the dirty water just gets walked in. If we had to keep them we’d have to karcher every day just to keep them clean. If I were you I’d send them straight them back and get a porous stone . Suffice it to say we are having the whole lot replaced with porous stone /grout/gravel and planting to take up the water. There are lots of u tube videos about how to lay this stuff but in my experience you need someone who has laid a lot of it and I think they are few are far between My advice - don’t touch it Good luck

I quite like those last ones actually. The pattern echos the round shapes of the toilet and vanity unit. Don't know how you'd feel about a floor like that?
