I’m after some advice about what colour to paint my living room.

My living room is plaster walls at the moment and has grey graphite bi folds and looking to do a wooden flooring. There are two sky lights and currently have a brown sofa, but may change this if need be.

Hi - Your living room space looks amazing and has a lot of light coming through. As this is a living room you will be relaxing and spending quite a bit of time here I would suggest a neutral colour, such as a soft pink or a warm cream. Pink is having a come back but more sophisticated and grown up. Your brown sofa will work well against pink also.

Also if you add lots of greenery in your living room it will not only connect the outside with the indoors but pink and green looks fab when put together! If you also buy pieces which match the colour of your bi-folds they would stand out against a neutral and will make the space feel connected.

Colours you could try are Farrow and Ball; Pink Ground, Setting Plaster would look pretty too, Oxford Stone would look great with the brown sofa too. Alternatively you could have a feature wall, with one colour darker

Hello! Painting your units is a good way to make the kitchen feel fresh and new without spending a bomb on it, and makes the kitchen feel a bit more 'you'. The colours you are suggesting sound great, the pitch blue is a really bold colour that I think could look quite quirky and a little quaint, the one down side is it you have don't have much light it will absorb a lot of it and make the kitchen seem darker but I suppose you are the best to gauge this since it depends on where your windows face and all sorts. If you want the colours to be forgiving on the bottom, use the more forgiving finish on the bottom too and the same on the top to match. Replace the handles without leaving a mark means using some all purpose filler (or wood filler if you have it/feeling fancy enough to buy some especially) to fill in the holes with an old butter knife and scraping off the excess, leaving this to dry then using sand paper to make it flat, don't be afraid to scratch into the wood a little since you will be painting over it before fixing on the new handles. P120 sandpaper will give a much better finish than P60 but will take longer, P values can range but the higher the number the better the finish (P60 would mean that there are 60 bits of grit on average occupying a quare inch so the grit particles are larger than P120 paper) for the work you are doing I'd recommend P120.

I just had a look at your idea book and you could definitely take inspiration from them in doing your room. I love the one by Forge interiors, where the chimney breast mirros colour of the back wall (looks like a dark green/blue) and sofa and other walls are nice and light. I recently posted a thread looking for light gray/neutral paint ideas for my living room and by the end of it I ended up with a dark blue room (all walls!) but I love it! If you are nervous, I would say be bold with paint but go neutral with sofas and then worst case scenario you have to repaint if you get it wrong, annoying but not the end of world and not too expensive a mistake! :)

Couldn’t say if the grey putty would match you’re soft furnishings. I’d get some colour cards and testers first and look at in both daylight and under artificial light, you’d be surprised at how much light can affect colour, especially with greys and neutrals. You could always use the Dulux or Valspar colour cards in B&Q and if you find a reasonable match then either go a couple of shades lighter or darker which will make the soft furnishings stand out better. As for fire surround, use a water based multi surface primer (doesn’t matter which brand), and 2-3 top coats of quick dry satin or eggshell. Just looked at Crown non drip satin and “milk white” seems like a good off white. If possible remove the surround before painting, looks like it should just lift off the wall. Hope this helps.
