Is this a ventless see through? I need a ventless see through stainless burner and have been told it’s not available for see through ventless fireplaces.

Hi Laura,

This is actually a Natural (wood burning) fireplace so it has a chimney.

That's a funky wood burner! Here's their website: http://dovre.co.uk/stoves-fires/vintage-50-wood-stoves/. I think you should get the bigger one for that size room and that size fireplace, but check with them because you want the correct output for the room, not just the look of it (you give them the dimensions of the room to work out which size you need to get the room warm). If the chimney really has been removed, please get a builder around who can come and work out how and if it can be reinstated unless that is an outside wall behind your fireplace and you can have the flue go through the back of it.

You will need to move away from small incandescent light sources. Those JLP lights will be like adding candles. If you paint the ceiling white you can use a decent quality linear LED linear light source instead of those low out put spots - it would also save you lots on your energy bill. For example, this linear light comes in any RAL (colour) and a 73W 10000Lm LED version wold cost you around £290 delivered: This would be mounted where you have your current spotlights but would one of your spots delivers between 420 and 750Lm. If you had this colour matched to the beams they would blend in and your ceiling would become your light source. We do this a lot with RGB for night clubs and theatres - it creates a great ambience.

For extra heat you can use a freestanding bio ethanol fireplace. They are very versatile and easy to fit without the need for a chimney or flue. They come in all different styles and shapes, so you can find log burner styles, like the one in the photo below. I think even a wall-mount bio ethanol fireplace could suit your space, they look modern and clean, and take up less space, as they are more compact and can simply hang on your empty wall. Hi there, Adding a wood burner sounds like a great idea and by winter you will have a really nice cosy feel to the living room! In terms of which one you should go for, it all depends on what look you are trying to achieve and how you want the room to feel, modern or traditional? If you are definitely going to build a proper fireplace which is compliant with building regs etc. then a square burner will look more traditional inside the square especially with the wooden beam on top. If however you do prefer a modern look and want the wood burner to be the focal point and stand out piece in the living room, then a curved stove would be better suited. I would also advise to have the pipework visible too (see attached picture). This makes it look more modern than a square one, saves space and assuming you go for it black, it will really stand out against light coloured walls. You can then style it with modern log holders etc to make it look really chic! I have a traditional square wood burner and I absolutely love it, especially in winter its super cosy when its on.
