Something doesn't feel right..
Comments (30)A brick wall talking!!!! This has made me chuckle!!! Margo, I saw that Tom had commented after me asking what the home owners did in the end!!! I thought, at first, ' hang on a minute! They have hardly had time to make a cup of coffee and read their Houzz thread!' Then it suddenly dawned on me and I scrolled back to see that this was in fact a two year old thread and I had put such a comprehensive reply on it.... as if my life depended on it! Never mind! Maybe the owner will revisit and post an after pic one day soon!...See MoreDoes it look odd that new path doesn't align with door?
Comments (28)Glad you persevered and had it fixed. You paid a lot of money to specifically have a decorative path. It being out of line on LHS with the front door would have been a permanent niggle that prevented you from enjoying it. Now you have a beautiful symmetrical path leading up to your front door. Congratulations!...See MoreHelp with wall colour and carpet
Comments (8)I see what you mean, it is a bit bland. Your painting feels a bit too small on the chimney breast, so I'd hang that on the wall behind the TV. I think you should lose the wall lights. I think that you could paint the entire fireplace wall a nice greyish blue, maybe look at Dulux Denim Drift I'd hang a lovely round mirror on the chimney. I've put one with a wooden frame in, but it could be anything you like really. And I've also put a large canvas art piece above the dining table. I assume you've moved that against the wall because you're working from home etc. now? Otherwise I'd turn it around and centre it under the ceiling light. Are these ceiling lights your choice? Because I feel they could be updated too. Anyway... to give you a visual, I've created a bit of a messy photoshop picture...See MoreHelp don’t like new carpet
Comments (16)I can explain why you are seeing a bit of a clash. We see strong value contrasts first, this means our eyes are drawn to the areas where the darkest darks meet light areas, such as a big dark TV on a light wall. When we make things a similar value there is no contrast to see other than hue which is the actual colour. So if you have a mid toned carpet and a mid toned sofa and one looks a bit cool and maybe a tinge of blue, and the other looks to be warmer with more red or yellow in, then they exaggerate each other, that's how colour works. All over our homes we will have these areas where neutrals can seem to fit a bit uncomfortably with each other, I know I do, I see it everywhere. Adding something dark or strongly coloured nearby is often a good idea as the visual distraction can be enough to lessen the effect. Hope this makes sense....See MoreFAIRFAX FLOORING
