What table in the dining area? Where? What style?
Hello
I was wondering if you have any advice on the table:
- What size of table will best fit our kitchen diner? There are 2 of us with max 4 guests.
- Where should we put it?
- What style?
We will have a high gloss kitchen with grey/light worktops and floor tiles. We are thinking of putting a white bricked wall on the wall where the plant and mirrors are.
Below we made a plan with 185cm/90cm table.
Dining area is 350cm wide by 400cm long.
See below our ikea plans (colours don’t match exactly what we have in mind due to ikea’s planning tool limitation).

5 years agoI would consider using a warm brick rather than white to add some warmth. Floor tiles, would opt for something with texture like a concrete effect which would look good against the gloss units. Table, 180cm with a wood top again for warmth and would probably repeat the wood with shelves to the left of the sink or a pile of chopping boards. What styles do you like re actual suggestions?

5 years agoJust as a general rule of thumb it's space of 1m all the way around. So, in your case that would make the table 2m long by a max of 150w ( you probably would go for 120 ish wide, or it would look odd with those dimensions.) Then your chairs have plenty of space to move in to . This is a table 200 x 120 in your space.
Your space is longer than it is wide so I would turn the table lengthwise, especially as a table is also longer than it is wide, usually, unless you went for a large square one. Related Discussions

Comments (27)Kitchens are a big expense - especially the chairs so I would match them to the units - the set you showed matches the colours of the chairs with the units really well, BUT, 1. The pine top doesn't work and 2. You need to add a bit of pzaz to this space. You can paint or cover the pine top with whatever colours / textures you choose as accents then follow these colours through into the pictures and the odd accessory (but don't go mad and keep most of the kitchen utensils and tools in the same colour as the background so they 'disappear' - only use subtle accent colours on gorgeous items so they stand out). This way, if you get bored with your scheme you can just change the accessories and the table top colour rather than the whole lot. Feel free to email me for more help. Comments (8)If you have the bench built by a carpenter you should consider storage. You can have drawers (most expensive) openings for baskets (buy the baskets and build around it!) or top opening which would be good for things you don't need to get to very often. You could do a custom cushion to fit it or loose cushions, for the base cushion if you can't stretch to custom look at cushions for garden seating or Carolyn Donnelly in Dunnes (not sure if you have Dunnes) do rectangular flat cushions. Consider looking at a second hand website for a round table with pedestal and paint it if you don't like the finish. I find them for my clients all the time!! The one in the pic is IKEA I think and won't be very durable but a good stop gap option. You could also look at benches in IKEA and put together your own bench. Comments (6)How about an L shaped built in bench with storage underneath,an oblong table in front and then foldable chairs for extra seating when you have guests? I would put a large framed mirror on the wall opposite the window to reflect light and open up the space and some colourful art work on the wall opposite the door. I note that Beano kindly recommended Go Modern and we would love to help you choose some furniture for your amazing space. I see that you are thinking of a glass table, but larger than the one you already have and some chairs to go with it, as well as a rug, a couple of armchairs and a coffee table. I think the glass dining table that you are looking at is really nice and a good size for the space, but I wondered if you had considered a ceramic table top as this might also work for you. Ceramic is a new finish in a variety of colours which is smooth to the touch and looks and feels just like marble, but is incredibly hard-wearing and perfect for families or entertaining. i like the idea of concrete effect floor tiles as rightly they are likely to nicely balance the gloss :).
Im a fan of clean “clinical” kitchen looks but would like to have a right balance of grey/white/little wood. will warm/orange brick look ok with dominance of grey and white? my fav brick walls are below (only to demonstrate brick style and colour) but I’m actually open to warm orange as I would also use it in the living room (next to dining room as feature wall and consistent living-dining look.
i like Scandinavian style tables/chairs as below and hope they will also bring a bit of warmthe.g. Malmo

5 years agolast modified: 5 years agogreat builds, I already have a better picture in my head :). I might go for 1.5-1.6m (extendable?) table to have still plenty of space and put it widthwise (as per my original floor plan). If we have guests, then I might change it.
So: warm coloured bricks, concrete look tiles, table with wooden legs and chairs with some wooden feature.
What light would you go for above the table? We’d like a few spoflights above kitchen counter, two pendants above the peninsula, a few wall lamps in the dining area and we are now stuck at the light above the table... I’m thinking two-three industrial/black or dark grey pendants?some ideas:

I will have to look into the lights to find something you can see before buying.
Re kitchens, we've gone for RINGHULT IKEA kitchen like below with gentle handles (we like clean handleless look but know from experience this wasn't practical for us). I can send more pics from IKEA planning tool :)
The countertop will be granite, something similar to below counters.
I also like a grey splashback as heard it is easy to keep clean :). Like in the below examples.
