Has anyone used Vinyl square tiles for a hall?

I'm thinking of replacing our hall, orange, battered 1960's blocked parquet with coir mat infill with (thick) vinyl square tiles in a modern pattern. Has anyone got these in a hall? I'm concerned that dirt will gather round the edges of each tile. Has anyone got experience of this? I can't afford real encaustic Victorian tiles and the block parquet, even restored, wouldn't/doesn't look good as it is so old fashioned. If anyone has photos of the tiles in use, that would be great. Thanks for any help.

I have these in a couple of the bedrooms to hang bathrobes and such on. They come in black or in white (which I would do on the White door). I love them and think you could probably do two on the door at slightly different heights. Tiling outside porch area and hallway with same tiles - weird?

Our hallway is total 7sqm then the outside path is max 2 sqm. It is just very expensive (£2 - 450 per sqm) even with my very talented husband doing the tiling. We are looking at a company that supplies the mosaic tiles loose but affixed to a sticky sheet so it's faster to install but still authentic individual tiles. I am tempted to use the nicer more expensive tiles inside and then use a cheaper black and white chequer board pattern outside. However like you I want things to match. So far I have done nothing because the cost is so high and I want it to look right. We are also doing a big renovation so my budget for the hall is being squeezed.

I recognise the phrase ' you've always imagined'. Lots of times I have had in my mind something such as Fired Earth Tiles, herringbone parquet, teak worktops etc etc and then you wake up and realise you are on a budget - like most people! I have to say, I am constantly surprised at the cost and range of materials out there so don't feel short changed if you don't choose your initial idea. I wanted handmade Emerie and Cie Moroccan tiles in my kitchen, but that was before I costed them and needed to sit down. I ended up with Green Quartzite and they were a seventh of the cost and they look fantastic. My hall is tiled and we don't have underfloor heating, but we do all wear cork soled slippers (:

As Sonia said - there is a huge array of Victorian tiles! I can highly recommend a company in Derby called Alternative Tiles (they work nationally too) - they specialise in Victorian tiles. When I had my small porch done, I gave them my measurements and they asked what kind of colours I liked. They then did a few different designs for me on their computer. The tiles that you posted from Topps are nice - but because they are essentially normal tiles, they don’t give you much variety or many options. If you go for a more authentic version such as the ones that Sonia has shared or the type that I described, you will get a truly bespoke end product. Be warned though - it’s not cheap because you need a specialist to lay them! We joke that our (tiny) porch is the most expensive square metre in our entire house. The tiles used in the more authentic versions are usually from a company called Original Style.
