should grey grout in a wet room discolour to black when wet?

I have recently had a wet room created and sadly the finish is not top notch in several ways but I am trying to live with most of the defects. however what concerns me most is the fact that the grey grout used by the installer goes black when it is wet. This looks really unsightly until it dries out again, but I am also worried in case it is absorbing water? The installer seems to think that the grout ( which he says is used in swimming pools etc) generally does this - but I cannot ever recall seeing darkened areas of grout in swimming pools or in any wet room I have ever used- what do others think?
