Hi - how I envy you that big kitchen; mine is tiny. I went for a warm cream with a splashback in bright red. You could perhaps add bright red accessories? I would go for a slightly darker, warmer shade of the walls, I would put large, bright ornaments on top of the cupboards (I particularly like hens and roosters) - they do need to be big though, otherwise they'll get lost. I'm sure you're going to have a table and chairs; my choice would be light wood, round, and maybe brightly coloured chairs to contrast the black tiles. Or, you go opt for a corner seating arrangement with comfy upholstered seating and bright cushions. Plants are an absolute must for me and that corner, to the left of the door, is crying out for a beautiful palm.....that is, if you don't opt for the corner seating! I would then place my plant(s) at, or near, the end of your counter. There are some very realistic "fake" candles around now - I have two which I've put into Moroccan style lamps which are only about 10 - 12" high. One sits of the floor, the other on a small table; they're pretty through the day and at night they flicker and cast patterns on the walls. I live in the Scottish Borders and three years ago there was a government incentive to externally insulate the houses. Due to the construction of the houses (poured concrete they couldn’t have cavity wall insulation ) . The difference to the heating bills is unbelievable but the look of the house is fabulous as there was new render put on new window sills and down pipes .i agree with the comment that just doing one house would stand out like a sore thumb but it just takes one to start the ball rolling . Maybe speak to your neighbours and they may want to do the same . All the houses in my street had the cladding and it has transformed the look of the street . I have since revamped my lounge and kitchen. There was nothing wrong with the kitchen cupboards so they where painted ,new work tops and sink . I did have a breakfast bar that took up a lot of room which I have replaced with a glass table . My next project is my bedroom which is getting refitted with new wardrobes and draws . Ex local authority houses are well built and have big rooms , they are worth buying as you can do so much with them ,I have bigger cupboards than the rooms that are in some new builds . This is my kitchen, it is so much lighter and more space . The back board is the same as the work top , so no tiles to grout .

By the way, Maria ... I bought the teacups at none other than at a Wilko store (UK)!! They often have some lovely accent items there. Also, at Amazon UK, I purchased a number of very realist flicker battery candles, to cast a gorgeous, romantic evening glow. My three oak furniture pieces were expensive, as was the sofa, but honestly, all the finishing touches are very affordable and were vital in creating the look I was after. I'm so glad you like it. The green wall, (with pink accents), is daring, but I find it very relaxing. As for the fireplace and fire, they were purchased separately. I tracked down the Georgian-style surround on eBay, and the 'electric' fire, from Dimplex. I hope all this is of some use. Jeanette

Plenty room for a dining end/area in your room. Suggest a rug in the lounge section -same length as the sofa- to help define and separate each part of the room. Also makes for a cosy look and feel. Currently you have a roman blind in the lounge area and this is the best treatment for that window- suggest some colour and pattern to the fabric in a new blind, coordinating with the rug. The photo suggests floor length curtains in the dining area? Is there patio doors behind? If so again new curtains would be best option - full length and with colour and pattern as in lounge. Look at Prestigious Textiles fabric ranges for ideas. I suggest floor lamps in the lounge and a couple if small side tables rather than a coffee table. Try Dwell for side tables to match with your dining table i.e. gloss white- this will pull the two areas of the room together whilst keeping them as distinct spaces. Doing this will make the room seem bigger actually.
