Help with designing living room/dining/kitchen please.
Comments (6)Regarding plug sockets - you can never have too many! Make sure there are enough in the kitchen at counter-top level. Either side of the bed is very useful and I would recommend one in the hall to plug the hoover into. I would also suggest a hotel style additional light switch by the bed head (its a small luxury but I love being able to turn it off without going back to the door). It doesn't look like there's that much counter top space in the kitchen so I would recommend buying something like this as an island: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/kitchen-products/kitchen-islands-trolleys/stenstorp-kitchen-island-white-oak-art-60323021/ This would also help to divide the kitchen/living space and provides space for a couple of bar stools for casual dining/chatting whilst cooking. If your daughter likes this idea then you may want to have a pendant light fitting over the island. Consider bathroom storage and where a shaver socket would be best placed for electric toothbrushes etc. If opting for spotlighting then get dimmer switches so you can control how bright they are. It also looks like the bathroom door and hall cupboard door will intersect each other at the moment so I would suggest having the bathroom door open inwards instead....See MoreKitchen design help please, diykitchens
Comments (38)Minnie’s layout looks gorgeous :), and she is correct you can buy extra paint from DIY however bear in mind that it’s sold as a two part and almost impossible to paint by hand as the lacquer added is meant to be sprayed on. However most people seem to successfully paint theirs using a matching service so you might want to bear that in mind. And please reconsider the integrated bin, it’s amazing and you can have just one with a handy drawer at the top. It’s my favourite thing having the bin next to the sink on one side and the dishwasher at the other. I can scrape, rinse and load in the dw without moving. Plus it looks so much neater not having a box sat around your kitchen....See Morehelp me decide on our final kitchen design please!!!
Comments (12)By the way we also originally had all the seating in a line like that, but I realised that a) the seats all faced away from the view (our big sliders will be behind that side of the island), and b) everyone sitting in a row like that is not at all convivial. It just looks good in photos. So we've changed the island layout so that the seats are at one of the short ends and along some of the long side, so when people are sitting there, they are in an L shape which is much nicer for conversation. And we've put some cupboards under the rest of that side of the island which has added a bit more storage. It won't be as photogenic and I struggled to give up the original design because I loved the symmetry of it, but I am glad I was flexible on it in the end, as I think it will be nicer kitchen to spend time in IRL as opposed to looking good in a photo!...See MoreKitchen Extension Design Meltdown. Comments (7)The biggest and most important thing is not letting contractors rush you, these decisions are important. I understand they have a job to complete but you will not be happy with a home you had to rush & you're the one who has to live in it. I would keep it open plan, including a dining table and a central island (can never have enough counter space) that can be used functionally and socially, if needed. Have you considered blocking the door to the tv? I don't see the need for it, especially with the entrance to the kitchen being so close....See More- 7 years ago
