enclose open tread stairs and add door

The bathroom ( in this much changed 1920 bungalow ) is located off a large open plan kitchen dining living area with the door under the open tread stairs. I’d ideally like to enclose under the stairs and add additional door to make bathroom feel more separated from living area. I can’t decide whether to enclose the whole stairs - upstairs then being accessed by door at base of stairs or is there another way leaving dome of the stairs open maybe? I’m not keen on the pine stairs so happy if they were changed in some way.

I wonder if you could create a corridor to the bathroom under the stairs with some storage (if that makes sense?). You could perhaps have the door at the living area side so the stairs are completely enclosed.

That’s kind of what I was thinking but I’m not too sure about the bit that would be ‘sticking out’ at the bottom!

I think I’d put the tv under the stairs with a small sofa opposite, you should be able to add a small accent chair opposite the sofa. Round dining table by the patio door and I’d get comfy chairs for extra seating for guests. Use a rug, art, lights etc for zoning the areas. I’ve found this pic with the same layout to what you’ve suggested for removing the kitchen wall. I’d probably block off the kitchen door so you can include tall units on that right hand wall (similar to 2nd pic albeit this is bigger). You may be able to extend the peninsula slightly under the stairs. In any case I think I’d contact a concept planner on here such as OnePlan for your kitchen design! I’d also mark out any furniture with boxes or masking tape before ordering anything, good luck with the move!

Sorry, I've just found out that this one is not yours. Post some photos, it will really help. Black next to white creates the strongest constrast possible, so not a good idea for anything you want to disappear. I would look to your flooring to see what colours are in the concrete affect tiles (they won't be pure grey, viirtually nothing is).

I’m in a 1930s terrace, and my hall is tiny too! Yo made me chuckle with your acrobatics to enter your house......... All the houses in my road are the same on the outside, but configured slightly differently inside. My neighbours house has a much bigger hall leading to the kitchen, but it eats into their sitting room which is much smaller than mine. You could remove the wall into the kitchen, or move it further into the kitchen giving you a wider hall? Or as CWD suggests adding, maybe a porch to the front crating a bigger hall? A floor plan or pics will help envisage your problem.

I think it might be easier and possibly cheaper to rip the existing stairs out and replace. Get a builder round to give you some advice and a quote. It might be more straightforward than you think.
