Art and colour for the kitchen
Comments (7)I'd put a shelf on that wall. Perhaps an oak one. You could use it to add some light to the far corner too. Either lights on the underside or a clamp lamp, whatever floats your boat. You can lean art on it and put your radio on it.... possibilities galore...See MoreIsland extractor - flush to ceiling vs downdraft?
Comments (40)Hi there. Looking for some related advice. We''re also ordering a new kitchen and are trying to decide on an extractor. The only issue is that the ceiling is about 3.25-3.5m high so everyone keeps telling us to have a bulkhead over the island as a ceiling mounted extractor will be inefficient otherwise (we're told a height of more than 1.5m above the hob is the maximum; ours will be about 2.2m...). We really don't want anything hanging from the ceiling over the kitchen island as it is in an open space and will ruin the whole open plan concept. Do you know of any flush ceiling mounted extractors with motors which are strong enough to work at that height? Currently looking at Falmec, Sirius and Frecan but would love to hear your suggestions. Comments (14)Thank you Minnie .. I have just seen your comment. I was thinking storage units across the nook opposite the kitchen. Hence why no rad there. The positioning of the utility has been a constant battle. Originally this space was going out 10x5 metres and was approved as such .. but now adding a second extension which has improved the balance. This position is at the back of the garden - which goes right around the house. We need an outside door to the utility and this causes the least interference. We have made the utility smaller so we can fit a sky light in to light the kitchen. I’ve blocked the current doors as you’ve described and it’s ok considering it’s quite a dark house .. plus there will be more light once extension complete ...thanks for that tip....See MoreKitchen plan for better garden flow? Comments (13)Keiblum's suggestion saves an extension and could be built on. if the play space is no longer needed then that means the room uses can return to living, kitchen and dining. my thoughts run to keeping the doors to the patio bbq area, run the kitchen down that wall (and honestly I don't know how long or how many cabinets that could be), use your Ikea island and see if any you could make use of the under stair area for utility area (something like a European laundry) or maybe the fridge ? The fridge might be better in the cabinet run though. Add another set of doors where the kitchen sink once overlooked the garden and use this area as your dining. You might even find yiu have space for more informal seating. In doing this you will be able to connect your bbq area to the kitchen and find yourself using this area as an outdoor dining room, giving rise to possibilities of further development of this space to use rather than it be a walk through. Another thought is if the layout was swapped as described you might be able to explore gaining more outlook by adding a full length window into the wall between the two sets of doors, or even removing the wall completely and glazing it to become full glass right across the rear wall, but without changing the footprint? Putting in another set of french doors might be the more reasonable option if the kitchen is swapped, but Kieblem's suggestion makes great use of the available materials ....See MoreTani H-S
