Help with fence and shed colours!!’

We’ve recently had our back garden paved and decided to painted our old fence panels (as they were looking a bit shabby). But I’m not sure on the colour we have chosen, as I don’t think it matches very well. I was hoping for a contemporary look, but some how don’t think I have achieved that. I’m now debating on whether to paint the fence panels grey and stain the shed, or paint the shed a dark slate colour and maybe leave the fence panels. Help!!
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

I wonder if someone can suggest a different colour for the shed.

Imho there is a lot of grey already.

To be honest I do not mind them too much, the posts are fighting for attention a bit and that s maybe why you are not entirely sure about them. Yes a dark grey on the fences would look good, but equally just painting the shed dark will bring everything together.

If I was starting from scratch I would have painted the shed the colour of the fence and the fence dark grey so all your green plants popped against it, but as it is I am not sure I'd have it in me to paint it all again :) Good luck

Shed will be dark oak. Problem nearly black. Was bought second hand so already has a dark treatment on it. Thinking to do fence a mid/light brown. But can't decide as would like a grey one but fear may look a bit industrial

I think the door of the shed attracts the eye much less than the walls of the shed. And the door is darker. I’m just pointing that out because I’ve painted a few fences, pergolas and sheds in my time and the first few times I tried light and out of desperation then went dark and have worked out dark recedes. Plus, rough wood is hard to paint and shows that it’s rough much more obviously than dark. But if you husband is a decorator I bet he can do a great job whatever you pick. :)

Judging by your 'colour scheme' I'd say white. :-) But more seriously, we painted (some years ago) much of our garden furniture a cornflower blue (Ronseal Woodland Colours). We still like its freshness and it blends remarkably well with all the natural garden colours. Not sure if they do a metal paint (for your swing stand).

Silver copse cupinol is a dark grey... There is a darker grey urban slate personally think its too dark. I'd go with the silver copse for fencing will make your plants and flowers pop.... Also silver birch cupinol is a lighter grey... Check them colours out....

I agree - if you can face painting the fence panels all grey and also the shed to match then go for it. Otherwise it doesn’t look bad. Once you have some greenery on them, they will be less obvious

Yes grey is popular but I think it’s because it’s easier to keep clean over white and black, ha ha. That’s what I say to myself anyway ;0)

Paint the fence a dark colour as the rain will make the white look dirty in a couple of months

I quite like the fence panels. Personally I wouldn’t paint them a darker grey as the the patio is already a dark grey and it could all look a bit doom and gloom! The shed looks a bit lost, if you like the monochrome look I’d paint it full black but I would love to see a jolly colour. I thought a deep aubergine/eggplant sort of colour would look great with the fence and patio.

Weird rachelmidlands, i thought of mauve first, cuprinol I think do one in that colour.

I also like the green and they do a blue, which works well with grey.

If you're going to go black, then use Duck's Back, it's a great product.

I think you already have a lot of grey. Definitely paint the shed though. As MATH says use Cuprinol Ducksback. Both me and my son have used it on our fencing and it really is fabulous easy to use stuff. Needs a minimum of 2 coats and is currently on offer at several shops. First coat takes longer to put on, then the second coat goes on really quickly.

I think I’d be tempted to use black for the fence and a contrast on the shed.

I have my side fences Silver Copse (grey) and the back fences Iris (dark blue).

I'd keep the fence as it is and paint/stain the shed a dark grey. If you're going for a different colour on the shed, make sure it relates to the colours you're using in the living room, assuming that looks out on the patio (I'm reluctant to call it a garden, because a garden should have way more plants). So if your living room has blue or green or orange, I'd paint the shed blue, green or orange.

Have to agree with Man about the House - the shed is the feature not the fence. Pale tones for the fence such as grey, blue, stone even a green and then just blast the shed with a dramatic colour that you can live with. Personally a vivid purple would do it for me but each to their own lol

Helen, what about some of this hand made rose fences? Can be made at any size, black or stainless steel or rusty finish.
