Crittal Style Aluminium sliding or folding doors
Comments (186)Fiona - I’ve been looking into replacing some doors with Crittal style and have contacted loads of suppliers and companies. The one that I’ve been most impressed with is the company mentioned above by Lou Valdini - Merlin Windows in Yorkshire. (I’m in the East Midlands). They gave me a competitive quote really quickly and then I got a quote from the fitter mentioned. (They fit across the UK and they link in with Merlin to ensure timings etc). It’s likely that we will go ahead in the next few months. (Just need to convince husband as he prefers chunky timber 😂)...See MoreExternal Crittall Style Doors
Comments (30)The examples shown above don’t look anything like Crittal windows though. The whole essence of Crittal is their very fine mullions and transoms. If the metal isn’t thin but chunky the proportions are all out and then the effect is clunky - not like Crittal at all, they just look like any old windows coloured black. It’s all about proportion....See MoreCrittall style steel glass wall or triple sliders
Comments (13)Sliders all the way. My sister has had them installed in her kitchen - 3 panes filling the whole of the back of the house and it looks amazing. She has gone for a very modern country look so clean lines, shaker doors, very light and airy. Here’s a view with one door slid open, please excuse the garden as that’s next on the list once lockdown over!...See MoreFaux Crittal or sliding doors?
Comments (12)I think this is a really common question for a lot of people. If you only need partial opening (so no bifolds) then sliding doors is the most practical solution, for all the reasons you've given - no doors flapping about, doors don't take up space internally or externally and you can leave it a little open or a lot open, plus maximum glass for light and views. As much as I love proper original Crittal, my husband totally thinks they look like glass garage doors - and that image ruined them for me! Still love them in other people's houses (when done well), but together with all the practical reasons, we won't have them in ours....See MoreTracey N
