How high to hang a very large picture with house with toddler

Hi there I have a chimney breast wall 8ft High that I would like to hang a very large picture frame with glass on to. I have a baby at the moment and I’m wondering how low a picture can be hanged with a toddler. The picture is portrait orientation and 135cm high by 80cm wide. The picture frame would site 105cm off the ground, do you think it’s safe? I would remove the clock from the wall. The pendant lights would block some of the picture from head on but in reality they don’t pose visibility issue as the wall can be viewed from so many angles. Thanks

Could you secure the picture to the wall both at the top and the bottom? This way it isn't just hanging. That would also prevent little one from gripping the bottom and being able to pull it away from the wall, and therefore potentially dislodging it.

Hang it on strap hangers. You attach the hooks to the wall (which involves careful measuring) and the straps to the back of the sides of the frame. The only way of removing it is to physically lift the weight of the picture to get it off the wall. You could also temporarily replace the glass with acrylic.

love this fireplace. A mantel would really distract from its elegance. Yes, absolutely do not let the painting rest on the surround. the width of the one already there is better proportioned than the one on the left. the desk is beautiful but needs to echo the fireplace by placing a taller lamp on its left, where the poinsetta is. Drop the painting above it, lower, & gradually add two more paintings above, (just play!) so you have 3 which will echo the line of the fireplace. The arrangement within the fireplace needs to reference the lovely stone & I would find a simple large glass jar & fill with tall cow parsley, grasses or anything country & natural in season. Tall lilies if you must. Do not forget the power & softness of foliage... Go for a walk & find an interesting piece of bark or stone to put to the left of the tall Glass jar or both to sustain the always decorate in 3's rule! (Find some greenery while you are at it!). Above all do not ruin the simple beauty of your room..I envy you your fireplace, a few easy tweeks & you are there!! you could do it today!

Hi - how I envy you that big kitchen; mine is tiny. I went for a warm cream with a splashback in bright red. You could perhaps add bright red accessories? I would go for a slightly darker, warmer shade of the walls, I would put large, bright ornaments on top of the cupboards (I particularly like hens and roosters) - they do need to be big though, otherwise they'll get lost. I'm sure you're going to have a table and chairs; my choice would be light wood, round, and maybe brightly coloured chairs to contrast the black tiles. Or, you go opt for a corner seating arrangement with comfy upholstered seating and bright cushions. Plants are an absolute must for me and that corner, to the left of the door, is crying out for a beautiful palm.....that is, if you don't opt for the corner seating! I would then place my plant(s) at, or near, the end of your counter. There are some very realistic "fake" candles around now - I have two which I've put into Moroccan style lamps which are only about 10 - 12" high. One sits of the floor, the other on a small table; they're pretty through the day and at night they flicker and cast patterns on the walls. I wish you well with whatever your choices - have fun and play around with it.

Hi Katherine, It sounds like a great space that can offer a real impact and still be a very cosy and relaxing space. It can be daunting to have such a large space to deal with at first, especially when there are features you don't want to touch. There are lots of different options for the space. I like the idea of opening up the fireplace as it would make a great feature for the room and a place to add a possible seating area for reading but I do agree that if down stairs is electric it is probably closed off. It is a bit of work and a messy job to get it changed. You shouldn't need to worry about planning but will obviously need to abide by building regulations. I think a lot of people place only a large bed and a select few piece of furniture in there types of rooms to draw attention and emphasis the gorgeous period features but there of course things we can do to add additional wardrobes in unobtrusive ways. I would agree to not adding a en-suit as it will unbalance the space. However, it is very hard to tell without any pictures? Would you be able to upload any? I really think it's a great basis for a lovely bathroom as it is. Here's what I would change to make it into the lovely, relaxed and luxurious space you're aiming for: roman blinds, change the photo frame for framed art with green tones in it, change the mirror for a larger and more elaborate one, find a small cart/trolley that holds towels and the items for daily use that are now on the little planchet. If you have space for that? There are very narrow ones that might work?
