Footstool ideas

Hi there, is it possible for people to give ideas on what type of footstool I should go for to replace the wooden coffee table? We've recently got ride of the dining table on the left in favour of a natural wood version and we've sold the rug in favour of a thinner woven one. Inspiration please!

Dye for knitted footstool?

Hi. If it’s wool or a natural fabric then it should take the dye quite easily. Although with something like a footstool it may have a coating to make it fire retardant. Easy way to see if it will absorb dye is to test a small patch with water. Soak for a few seconds and if you can see the water spreading through the fibres then it will take a dye. If using Dlyon use the cold water sachets not the machine wash mix. You may also need salt to fix the dye, instructions should be on the packet. Do the dying outside with a bucket or cheap inflatable pool and apply with a sponge squeezing the dye into the fabric.... it can get messy so rubber gloves and floor covering as well. Also remember that you cannot dye to a lighter colour (this involves bleaching) so only similar toned or darker will work. Good luck, it’s a fun and easy project but a little messy. If you can remove the cover then it would make it a lot easier.

Tracy. You’ve been getting a lot of good advice but I just thought I’d add a few thoughts. When I look at your current set up I see a classic and oriental feeling. I think this is timeless and just needs a refresh. Your sofas are a classic design and I think that recovering them in a more neutral fabric would work. But I think your curtains are really fresh and modern and it would be good to really layer on lots of cushions to tie in with the design. See attached other fabrics from Villa Nova which complement but don’t match your existing design. Loads of these layered up on a neutral linens effect background would look great and could be changed over time. For your walls, I actually don’t think dark blue is right. It’s very on trend right now and can look great in a smaller cosy room but your room is spacious and I’d personally keep that feeling of light. I know you don’t like wallpaper but a pale ivory type paper with a subtle colour or texture could look really elegant. I actually like your mahogany style furniture. It’s the tv stand I’d change along with maybe freshening up your lampshades. Minnie’s choices look great. Alternatively, some blue and white China lamp bases would look wonderful and pick out the Asian themes in your furniture. See photos attached and good luck

From what i can see your curtains look as if they‘d work really well with setting plaster or similar. You could consider cafe shutters and as the window is split have 3 (perhaps lower than those shown, I was just trying to find a pic with more than one window). I would try losing the tie backs though as they're probably better without for eyelets. i think a deeper pink ikat lampshade would work well, as in the 2nd pic, I have a feeling this may actually be a Ben Penreath room! Personally I would have the tv next to the fire with the sofa opposite and the chair to the right of the fire. Maybe consider an upholstered footstool with a tray on top for extra seating and a place to put drinks. You could consider painting the fire surround in an off white and if the tv is above the storage unit it may work better in a deeper tone?
