mid century upcycled chairs and varnish / stain colour

Hi , im having a pair of mid century chairs upcycled and re-upholstered. I wondered if anyone could please recommend a varnish colour. The chairs are very similar to the one in picture attached . I like the colour of tje stain. Any ideas on what it is please?

That looks like simple varnished mahogany, like lots of 60's G Plan furniture?

It was probably teak as lots of 70s furniture was made from this wood. I remember it well!

You have changed the proportions of the cushions to bring the modern look too so the chair looks more comfortable. The back cushion being longer and the seat deeper. The grey blue complements the lovely wood. What a wonderful fabric. Does it come off or do you just wipe it with water?

I would go for a nice crushed velvet in either brown or cream or a burgandy red chair and get a couple of cushions with nice prints on something like elvis or marilyn monroe or what ever your desire is. if you like prints I can recommend an upcycler of furniture you can find her on facebook just chic by sarah. Take a look she maybe able to help you or give you some ideas, at leaset. Hope you get what your looking for !!!

What a great house. It's hard to find pictures but I like your idea of a Japanese/oriental mid century fusion. Some Noguchi pieces might be good! I've also find a tour of a similar house for inspiration. I love the ceiling, hard to tell from the photos but if you did want to make the rooms feel taller you could paint just the lower beams in a pale stone colour. I might also reveal the wood floor and use rugs to break up the wood. I would just use earthy colours with charcoal/black and lots of green for plants. I like colourhappys idea to paint the wood outside, I might get some 3D renders done. I love the base units in the kitchen. Are they beyond repair if you could get the appliances integrated? Danielle H - The artwork came from home sense. An impulse buy which really probably doesnt link but I just loved them so bought them! Now wondering about putting them elsewhere as worried it's all just a great big mess that will make my visitors get a headache :-). I'm still defo wanting to paper tho... might move the strip a bit further along to get the feel. And I'm still tidying up a bit to get a pic ;o)

Yes 60s and 70s wooden furniture was often, but not exclusively teak.

The chairs in the photo look lighter than teak to me.

GPlan and other makers often used a veneer though.

You could perhaps use a teak (colour) oil, stain or varnish if you like that darker colour.

If they are teak I can show you what danish oil does after about 6 coats! It will be two posts as pics are on separate tablets
