Need help with living room design
Comments (19)I would suggest that it's impossible to give professional advice that can be relied upon without full measurements and details. For this reason, I'd suggest you contact a professional in your area (Houzz has a great pro directory) and let them know your needs. Perhaps sit with them and discuss at length your seating requirements, lifestyle, functional uses for the space, and have them work out a floor plan for you with measurements that you can use to shop yourself. This is usually an inexpensive service and will yield much more usable results than posing the question on Houzz discussions thread. For instance, have you thought about whether or not you want a desk in the space for doing bills or using your laptop more conveniently? Have you thought about whether there might be use for a game table, or one where your kids (if you have them...) could do homework or eat snacks, or what you can use as a buffet during large parties. When you complete a renovation like this, you have to determine how the space will now be used and incorporated into your life. Without doing this you will likely buy the wrong type of furniture for your needs. A designer should and would discuss all these details with you, look around the rest of your house, make suggestions, and give you an accurate, professional floor plan to work from. I hope that this advice if helpful to you and wish you the best....See MoreLiving Room design HELP!!!
Comments (11)Hi, I love Grey as a base colour, it will go with so many others! Grey is a cool colour, so you are often better off with feature colours being warm, such as Raspberry's and Greens for a more traditional homely feel, or even Oranges and Turquoises for a modern twist. The thing about the Tartan ( and I added some to my lounge last year, is that, less is more! When you get bored with the tartan cushions, just change them for something else. If your bases are neutral, it's very easy to change to look just by buying different cushion covers! Always go for plain, but lush curtains as they're an expensive item and you don't want to change those too often, so again go neutral. Feature walls are great for adding a splash of colour, and it's easy and cheap to change when you want a different look. Here are some ideas i've pulled together for you. Good luck with your project, Nicky x...See MoreHelp with designing living room/dining/kitchen please.
Comments (6)Regarding plug sockets - you can never have too many! Make sure there are enough in the kitchen at counter-top level. Either side of the bed is very useful and I would recommend one in the hall to plug the hoover into. I would also suggest a hotel style additional light switch by the bed head (its a small luxury but I love being able to turn it off without going back to the door). It doesn't look like there's that much counter top space in the kitchen so I would recommend buying something like this as an island: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/kitchen-products/kitchen-islands-trolleys/stenstorp-kitchen-island-white-oak-art-60323021/ This would also help to divide the kitchen/living space and provides space for a couple of bar stools for casual dining/chatting whilst cooking. If your daughter likes this idea then you may want to have a pendant light fitting over the island. Consider bathroom storage and where a shaver socket would be best placed for electric toothbrushes etc. If opting for spotlighting then get dimmer switches so you can control how bright they are. It also looks like the bathroom door and hall cupboard door will intersect each other at the moment so I would suggest having the bathroom door open inwards instead....See MoreLiving room design
