Front Garden Planting Advice Please!
Comments (14)It looks a very good start. Now think about adding more interest to the gravel, perhaps by interspersing the 'lollipop trees' with neat but interesting shrubs. These could be scented such as Sarcoccoca (winter scent), Daphne odora (spring scent)... And adding a border in front of the house with appropriate plants. I would need to now the orientation of the garden and whether the soil is alkaline/acid/neutral and clay/loam/sand/chalk before recommending plants. If you do not need to park a vehicle in front of the house, and with the right soil and aspect you could add a rectangular herb garden....See MorePlease advice for my new garden design and why to plant as well !!!!!
Comments (18)This is where we need to know more about your hedge which I can't tell from the photo. If it's Leylandii you cannot cut it behind the last green shoot because it will not re-shoot and you'll be looking at a brown curtain forever. If it's brown because it's diseased then that is another problem altogether! My suggestion is you join the Royal Horticultural Society and then send them a sample of the dead clipping for them to pronounce upon! I can't tell you about diseases for sure and not at a distance. You'll also get plenty of plant advice from them generally. www.rhs.org.ik you'll be in safe hands there (it's only about £40 per year and has other benefits too. Good luck....See MoreStraggly French bean plants (indoors) help please!
Comments (7)Hi, so yours are only babies. The pictures I shared are not my fathers garden as he has passed away. I just remember them climbing up the poles like Jack and the Beanstalk! He then left the beans to dry out a bit before shelling them. Mum would freeze the beans for future use. Those beans were the best ever! I don’t know about growing them indoors, but you could transplant them into a big pot with canes tied at the top. I suppose putting near the window and keeping them well weathered will help. If they bend towards the light you can turn the pot around each day maybe? If they are the bush variety then you won’t need the canes. Hope it works out. 😊...See MorePlant suggestions please
Comments (4)Hi. I think it would look nice either way, painted or not. I perhaps wouldn’t paint it a brilliant white tho, maybe more of a creamy colour. When you go to the garden centre you could also ask their advice as they might be limited to what stock they have or only sell things in season. For my 2p worth here’s what I would plant. For a palm, Chamaerops humilis (dwarf fan palm), it’s probably the best for small gardens and uk climate. Libertia. Strappy leaves, dainty flowers and good for narrow borders. A climber such as honeysuckle or jasmine. Summer flowering bulbs....I’ve never grown them but I like the look of Amaryllis Belladonna (also called naked ladies 😊). Hope this helps and happy garden shopping. dwarf fan palm Libertia Amaryllis belladonna...See MoreDonna Muldoon
