How long does this raked design stay among the pebbles? How easy is it to keep up the look of it?

Hi Ruchi,

The gravel will stay in the shape until disturbed.

We used a special course limestone gravel that locks together pretty tight. Then once rained on, the gravel binds together as though it was glued.

I imagine this is down to the slight acidity in the rain, that dissolves and then deposits small amounts of the limestone as the rain water passes through the material, thus acting as a binding agent.

This garden still looks perfect today, and was completed a couple of years ago now. Requires almost no maintenance :)

I've just had a kitchen fitted with white quartz worktop, I've had drainer grooves put in but wish I didn't. We mainly use the dishwasher and if I'd thought about it would just have bought a dish drainer with a tray underneath, this would have given more usable work surface near the cooker.

Dear Sarah Your idea of planting is a good one, but I'm not convinced that the upper floor would be improved by painting it white. Pebbledash is currently unpopular and therefore often targeted as a 'problem', To me, the main problem is the complete paving of the front garden, the resultant starkness exacerbated by the white paint to the ground floor. I'd think twice before planting wisteria. Although delightful when in flower it is rampant, can be difficult to control, and its roots can cause havoc if they get into drains. Some carefully chosen evergreen and flowering shrubs planted in the ground, not only pots, could greatly improve the look of the house and not spoil the beneficial uniformity of the terrace. It looks really smart as it is already. I agree with others that there's not much point painting your pebbledash if the neighbours don't match. I'd save your money on the fence as next-doors planting is adding some much needed colour to your front, or at least stick to a short picket fence. I'd spend the money on a quality front door, though I'd go for something more in keeping rather than cottage style, that and some potted plants.
