Is it possible to trim these doors for openings < 80" in height?

I have two openings that are 79.5" in height and one that is 76" in height.

Hi, you can cut that door on 3/4" on top and bottom

Hi Loubrad, The fan you are after is a telescopic fan. They come both 600mm and 900mm wide. I would always sell the larger format fan with a 800mm/900mm induction hob to limit condensation as much as possible. The brands I would normally sell with this layout is Bosch and Siemens. 😱 indeed, Victoria. That's how I feel but at the same time, the middle horizontal is a bit high for me. Sigh. Maybe I'll hunt out some neighbours with the original doors and try a few out! Thanks for the link, Joanna. The problem is I've fallen in love with some door knobs, they are an unusual finish and the manufacturer makes matching latches but they only do 60mm and 100mm to the backset. The short one feels a bit tight. The long one is too long, esp if I pair them with thumb turns on the bathroom and toilet doors. I feel so privileged to even have this dilemma but if you are going to spend a lot of money, you want it to be perfect! I shall ponder.

Please do live in it for at least 6 months and get to know your new space before making any drastic changes. You need to see how the light works inside and out, which rooms you like and which need a re-think, if the plumbing/kitchen/storage space/electrics or garden space need improvement or enlargement. Then employ an architect to help with plans if the budget stretches. Money spent on professional help is a very good idea indeed and cheaper in the long run.

I’m surprised noone has suggested grey uPVC windows yet. They always seem to be a favourite on here. 😖 If the facade is flat, you need relief but your options depend, as usual, on your budget. The biggest impact would be from replacing the windows but set them back in their recess by 2-4”. Pick a more interesting style with smaller panes to creat interest. You would not believe what a difference that would make. Rendering the whole front would just flatten the it more and actually make it less interesting but rendering or cladding a corner might help. Rendering just around the porch means rendering and painting the area that is most easily damaged by high traffic so guard against that. It also risks making the house look dated so I would avoid that approach. Installing a porch and or bay or bow window would bring elements forward but pick compatible styles and don’t mix them, ie traditional OR contemporary. Lowering the top of the retaining wall to path level would reduce the impact of another dominant flat plane. You could also use trellis or panels to break up the surface and encourage climbers, either in front of the walls or onto them. Planters on top of the retaining wall with hedging or tumbling plants could look great. It looks a nice house and with some careful thought could look wonderful but don’t risk spoiling it by going over the top with every idea. Good luck and enjoy your lovely home.
