Any ideas welcome in hall stairs and landing!!
Comments (9)You've got a great space to work with there, lovely hallway with nice light, a vista through to the back and a lovely traditional staircase. If you like the style I would say it just needs a new stair runner and a lick of paint. Have a look at Roger Oates wool stair runners - these are all the rage for this kind of setting at the moment, some gorgeous colours available. Then maybe you could coordinate with some artwork you like to go on the walls and choose a neutral wall paint that works with the colours. You could go all white with the stair bannister, but maybe not if it already works with your colour scheme. Then think about how you could "style up" the view to the back of the house. Another thing to consider is lighting accessories to create a nice welcoming ambience at night. Hope this helps :)...See MoreWe want to update the lighting in the hallways and stairs in a block o

Comments (3)I agree the grey-green colour is lovely, and it's quite restful so I don't think it would be too much if you wanted to do the whole lot in that colour. Also it would go very nicely with the parquet. However if you want to break it up, you could consider installing a dado rail and have colour under the dado and white/neutral above, or vice versa. You could even install panelling up to dado height. I don't know whether panelling or dado rails are strictly authentic for 1930s, you would have to check that, but I think it would look ok even if not authentic, as long as the style is simple. One more thought, are you going to carpet the stairs? (They look lovely bare but will be very noisy I imagine). If so I would advise choosing carpet first and then paint to go with the carpet - much easier than trying to match carpet to paint!...See MoreDark/small hallway and stairs, looking for colour ideas?
Comments (9)Hi Lucy - here are some Photoshop tryouts of some of the more daring hues in Farrow and Ball and Little Green (F&B 'Arsenic', Little & Green 'Leather' pink...) I can't vouch for the accuracy of online colour charts as you'll see them on your PC, but these should give you a broad idea of what you could do if you're keeping the beige carpet and dark grey paint (which I've extended to the skirting to make it easier to put stronger colours near the beige). A lot depends on the other colours you have in your house, and whether you want a 'warm' feel or a 'cool' one. For the 'off white' (which should show dirt less than pure white) I'd suggest using either a pale version of the carpet colour or a pale version of the band colour. If you want to go all out for really bright colours - or anything in the yellow or orange range - the beige carpet would have to go. Obviously, the band colour could be picked up in picture frames or other decorations. Hope this helps....See MoreE D
