What’s the cause?

Hi, I’m rubbish with building and diy knowledge so I thought I’d ask you experts!
Over the last couple of months I’ve noticed a water mark and damp/mould in corner of upstairs window.
Obviously we’ve had a lot of rain, I am due to have whole of house repointed next month as there’s little holes everywhere, could that be the cause? But I’ve also noticed the upvc window in question has started to get misty at times.
What’s people’s thoughts on cause and solution?

It may well be condensation, so possibly worth getting a dehumidifier. Misted up glazing units could be the unit has blown, but they can be replaced without the whole window being replaced.

Also check the sealant around the exterior of the frame is good. Water could be getting in around the frame if not.

Hi Sonia. It’s the plant with a name that I can never spell...but I’ll have a go.... tatrapanax papyfirus ‘Rex’ ???? Chinese rice paper plant. Or aka The Triffid! That’s easier to remember. 😉. Apparently they can send out suckers from the roots several meters away so my neighbours might get a few babies in years to come. Can’t argue tho, it’s a fab jungly looking plant. As Jonathan indicated, you need to do something about the vibration. This is what’s causing the low frequencies (‘bass’). Is it sitting on a wooden floor? Have you contacted the manufacturer about it? It shouldn’t really produce a loud hum.

You need to find out what’s causing the condensation first. There’s no use just trying to cover it up and hide it. If there’s a problem you need to sort it.

Wow, that’s a fantastic apartment! It looks like your obscured windows were part of the original design... and the neighbouring flat is the same? So, what’s going on here? It could be heat, it could be an ingress of water into these areas? Either way it’s likely to be localised. One last question: is your apartment leasehold? If so, I’d get in touch with your management agents to find out what your options are.
