I APPRECIATE YOUR DESIGN DILEMMA. THE TILES YOU ARE CONSIDERING ARE REALLY PRETTY. I ALSO LOVE THE LOOK YOU HAVE BEEN CREATING. YOUR KITCHEN SOUNDS LIKE A FIRED EARTH STYLE KITCHEN, CLASSY. I HAVE CONSIDERED THE ABOVE ADVICE WHICH MAKES SENSE FOR DIFFERENT REASONS. I WOULD SAY THAT IF YOUR NOT PLANNING TO MOVE ITS SO IMPORTANT THAT YOU CHOOSE A FLOOR THAT YOU LOVE. I HAVE LEARN'T BY MY MISTAKES. I ONCE HAD THE SAME DILEMMA AND WAS PLANNING TO MOVE AFTER MY SHAKER KITCHEN REMODEL. I WENT FOR TRAVERTINE FLOOR AS I THOUGHT IT WOULD SELL QUICKER. I DID THE FLOOR AND NEVER MOVED, SON MOVED BACK HOME WITH HIS FAMILY. I THEN LIVED IN THE PROPERTY FOR A FEW YEARS AND HAD MAJOR REGRET ABOUT NOT GOING FOR MY GUT INSTINCT ON FLOOR. I THINK THE FLOOR WILL LOOK SENSATIONAL. IT WILL BE STUNNING WITH THE COLOUR OF YOUR UNITS. JUST WARM UP WITH ACCESSORIES, COPPER PANS AND ACCESSORIES ARE VERY TRENDY RIGHT NOW. KEEP THE WALLS LIGHT. What do you think about porcelain floor tiles for a living room?

I have wood effect tiles in my hall and kitchen, I'm not sure if they are porcelain or ceramic but they aren't holding up too well. Tiny chips appear and it looks like little specs of paint on the floor :( not sure where they come from whether it's when something is dropped on it or a chair scraped or something but I wouldn't have them down myself (they were here when we bought) I have however had Karndean flooring laid in my lounge and that is superb. Not noisy underfoot nor cold unlike wood and laminate so I'm very happy with that. Needs hoovering everyday though, but I have a toddler and a dog.

Oh dear, I hope your company didn't lay them... The problems are legion, but the most striking mistake is in the layout. The tiles do not follow the line of the stairs, nor are they symmetrical. This will ALWAYS make the hall look lopsided. When you add in the colour scheme and lack of other period features, the owners have a problem. Are these encaustic tiles? The colour is far from traditional for a hallway and as others have said- more suited for a bathroom/utility room. If they are encaustic, why not move them to the garden and make a Mediterranean courtyard? The hall can then be inviting rather than blinding.

Thanks to all who offered advice. The samples arrived and the space invader fabric was our favourite. None of the cube patterns were quite right. Do you think i could skip lining fabric since it is already so thick? I think it might be too bulky for a blind with lining too. The other thing I wanted is some general styling advice. I don't know whether I'm going to be able to pull off the look I was originally going for and i keep getting sidetracked by other things I also like. My original idea was a contemporary classic kitchen with a bit of an edge. So we have light grey shaker doors on bottom, then handleless white slab on top. Flooring probably wood effect herringbone vinyl. Walls will be off white and backsplash behind job will be very pale neutral zellige tiles. Handles will be more industrial style, I like quite a few from dowsing & Reynolds, probably in bronze so quite dark. Then there will be a built in bench with dark blue cushion on the seat and across the back. Table I would like something mid or dark wood and contemporary but I've also liked mid century style ones I've seen. And chairs are undecided but maybe black. Worktops are marble effect Quartz (white with grey veining) and an upstand and sink is undermount stainless steel. I have already bought pendants for above the dining table, they are patterned glass with a black ceiling cord. I can't tell whether I'm going to be able to make this work or just end up with an odd collection of styles which don't quite work and feel disappointed with it.
