Floor to ceiling kitchen with inbuilt oven and fridge

Hi,

I plan to have an wall of floor to ceiling cabinets in my new kitchen with an integrated fridge and oven. I know the fridge has a vent to go in the plinth, but do I need to consider any other form of ventilation?

There will only be a 4cm gap at the top of the cabinets which we intend to fill with wood like the work surface. We can add vent holes in the filler, or potentially not fill it (although I'd rather have the cabinets 'framed' with wood).

Personally I think the completely fitted look is an American Aesthetic and having a shadow gap has practical benefits because you are less likely to see an uneven ceiling, it’s easier to decorate, you remove the ventilation issue and you have an opportunity to add lighting.

Your idea of framing your tall bank sounds great but it it has to suit the room and your cabinet style. So if you are set on the framing I would do one of a few things:-
If it is a contemporary kitchen consider buying shorter cabinets so the framing feature isn’t lost.
If it is a traditional kitchen consider adding cornice instead.
Consider using thinner framing so that uneven ceilings don’t cause a problem

Uneven ceiling, yes, hadn't thought of that. We had considered what would happen with non right angle wall, as the cabinets are sitting in an alcove. Will have a think, thanks!

Thank you all so much for the positive comments. Yes - it's Bodbyn. I found ikea the easiest to get the cupboard configuration I wanted as everything is so interchangeable. Ps For some reason I thought this post had failed so I posted it again... You may see it crop up again in the feed!

Agree with Daniel with taking hot items out of an oven and having worktop space to put these down. I also agree with Golddust that the original designers layout is the best. If you do consider moving the gas hob under the window, speak to a gas safe engineer first, there are regulations regarding gas appliances and open windows.

Here’s mine. It’s Dove Grey handleless and I love it. Clean and sleek. On the left hand side is the tall larder unit (how did I manage without one, it holds soooo much stuff), then the middle 2 units protrude slightly (doesn’t really show too well in the photo) and they have a fridge over a freezer, then a dryer over a washer and then there’s the double oven and integrated microwave. Spare cupboard space over the top of 3 units.

We're so excited you have We would like to echo some of the recommendations already made - having island and counter space nearby is incredibly important, as well as a sturdy oven with racks and oven doors which can potentially withstand weight. Richard's comment regarding elbow room is also definitely one to watch out for. We'd also recommend having your hob and extractor nearby - for example, on an island opposite your built-in ovens as shown in the image below. This helps you to transfer from hob to oven and back again, and can also help deal with the smell of cooking! Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you would like any further advice.

I agree about the comments for a shadow line and the fact that uneven ceilings get lost. I had the option to fill in or leave the gap as a shadow line. Shadow line won.
