<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><md>We've told my 7yo son that he can choose what he wants when we decorate his bedroom. So things like paint colours and general themes.

He picked a pair of curtains space theme with rockets and planets and a matching wall art picture from dunelm and also wants to paint his ceiling dark blue with white stars.

He would also like football related things in his room. Particularly things related to his team that he supports (arsenal) Any ideas how I could make these themes flow together without making it all look very random and disjointed.

He's been waiting months to do his room with his choice of decor as we had promised him he can when we move into a new home .. I just want to guide him right way!

That's a tricky one! you could paint his bed or chest of drawers, wardrobe etc in red and white, the first pic is just giving an idea of something red and white in a space themed room rather than the rocket although it is very nice!

You can also get rocket decals and you could add the face of his favourite player in the rocket. Or alternatively I quite like the idea of a moon decal and you can then add a footballer decal ( this one is from beautifulgame.co.uk) and position the player so he's kicking the ball over the moon ( I would probably add just the player rather than the arsenal badge etc). You can also get a red and white football beanbag, this one isn't too obviously football but you may have enough red and white in the room by that stage anyway! Maybe if he wants more arsenal themed bits suggest adding to the inside of the wardrobe door :)

For my two little boys we bought bed sheets which they preffered and now they more than happy and their room looks more colourful and joyful. If you want you can take some ideas from https://www.nostra.lv . I know it's in Latvia, but you can get an idea and found something simmilar next to you.

It may be better to totally separate the sleep zone with any other area. Having books and other stimulating things so near might be too much temptation - obviously this depends a lot on the individual child - and can change as they grow. In past experience we've found a sleep room - dedicated to calm and rest totally in an upstairs room works very well in conjunction with separate room downstairs for study, visual and audio stimulation etc with a younger child. Also using the 'add as they grow' weighted bed cover and lap cover can help with many children - offering comfort and a physical reminder that it's calm time. Because so many factors are unique to each child - for example some children find red walls calming - with others it's too over stimulating - it's very difficult to offer advice as a general. If your child is old enough to discuss feelings - then involve them and find which colours are their 'happy excited' colours - a which are there 'happy sleepy' colours and importantly 'angry' and 'sad' colours too as a starting point ... alcove design advice for kids bedroom

Hi Kids Rule Interiors, thank you very much for your reply! Yes, I am planning to store all his clothes in this alcove (which are not that many when you try to be a minimalist :D)... In the teak chest of drawers, there are two drawers, where I would put his clothes for the current season. Above it, there would be a shelf with a hanging rail. I was thinking that the fact that the shelf is modular would help to place it higher as my child's clothes get bigger. But by the time his clothes get really big, I might come up a new wardrobe solution! I looked into Svalnas in the past but it's not the right dimensions for my alcove :( the closest I could find is a twin slot shelving system... The other thing I'm considering is an ikea billy bookcase turned into a wardrobe like the one below, but I hesitate because in this case, I cannot put anything on display! Thank you so much for insisting on the fact that the corners of the shelves have to be safe in some way.

Hi there, It is wonderful to have a blank canvas where you can let your creativity flow. I would get your daughter to draw her ideal room and then chat through it with her pinning down the feel she wants for her room and the bigger themes rather than "purple and lime green" for instance. once you've chatted you can find options that you can live with too, that are practical and where only small accessories will have to be changed as her tastes change. As it sounds like you have the space I'd go for a statement bed - a wooden house bed or something with a canopy or paint the wall and ceiling in a stripe in line with where the bed is going to be to make a statement and help to define the space. Remember to think about zoning - play area, study/art area, reading corner, sleeping, music practice, clothes storage, book storage and toy storage. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
