We are just building an extension at the minute and had the same problem, in the end we ditched the idea of concrete floors and continued the floating floor into the extension. We have a wet system ufh installed over 750mm insulation with dry screed over then chipboard and ply. It's due to be tiled today. I've attached photos of the floor to,ply stage and my tiles which are a matt finish concrete colour and because the are reticulate do can be laid with 1mm grout lines. Hope this helps.

Thank you both! Would you advise to do just the one colour/medium throughout the house? My husband seemed to think white or oak would look good everywhere except where the tiled floors are. I don't think it would be a good idea to do 2 different skirting boards though, do you?

We have engineered wood in our living room with wet UFH under it. We’ve noticed it’s a lot slower to heat up compared with our tiled kitchen - presumably due to the insulating effect of the wood. So in practice we need to leave the heating on in that room overnight in the coldest months, otherwise the room doesn‘t warm up till mid afternoon. Luckily we made it a separate zone from the kitchen so we don‘t need to leave both on overnight. Rugs are tricky - we’ve recently put a wool rug down on the wood and are waiting to see if it affects the heating or ruins the floor...! Hopefully not but I found conflicting views on the net.

I have white cupboards with a laminate ash wood worktop. For the flooring I opted to tie the two colours together with a stone effect that had some white and ash- like tones. Different woods can clash but continuing the same tone could work well. If you have samples, I'm sure people on here could offer further advice.
