Indoor - Outdoor Look flooring material help

HI all. Please advise.

Description of the area: I have kitchen dining area next to the playroom which are connected (no doors btw). Also both the areas overlook the patio/ garden through the big sliding windows.

I want to have indoor outdoor look for kitchen dining area. So basically, a material that is suitable for both purposes. Here's the catch - i have children running from playroom into the kitchen dining area .

which is the best suitable flooring to use?

Please advise flooring material except porcelain tiles.

I’m researching outdoor paving at the moment as I want to remove a tired deck and tile instead. There are a lot of porcelain floorings and they are either indoor or outdoor. The main difference is the outdoor tiles are twice as thick (20mm instead of 8-10mm) and have a higher non slip rating. So you could get the same looking porcelain tile for indoors and match it with an outdoor quality tile for outside. Hope this makes sense. Visit some local tile places and have a chat. In my experience some are really helpful and some are not, but it’s worth doing this research. One thing I did read is don’t have the outdoor tiles indoors as the non slip quality makes the tile rougher and harder to clean. Hope this helps. Of course there are other floorings but if you want indoor/outdoor matching then porcelain is the way forward.

I have to agree with the other comments, Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) would be a perfect floor for your home. Many people are having this type of flooring installed throughout the ground floor of their homes because it is hard wearing, easy to clean and affordable. Moduleo and Karndean are popular brands, both offer several products ranges which include a variety of wood and stone effect tiles. Alternatively take a look at Harvey Maria, they have some stunning designs that look really good in hallways, kitchens and bathrooms.

Unless you are going for hardwood decking, I wouldn’t have it. It is slippery when wet and softwood decking starts to rot after a few years. Mine is 8 years old and starting to rot in one corner. I was considering composite decking until I found several bad reviews of it, mainly in the US. It tends to show wear and flaking within 10 years and it warps. In fact Trex is being sued by many customers in the US as the product is not maintenance free and does not last 25 years. Have a read on www.thecraftsmanblog.com. However, outdoor grade porcelain seems a better bet? It comes in wood effect or tile and is non slip. It has a very modern feel if that is the look you’re after. Worth a look?

Thank you all for your comments. Very much appreciated. My wife is ruling out wood because she doesn't like the look of wood in kitchens and because we have solid wood flooring in the rest of the downstairs area and she thinks it will clash. Picture below of where out kitchen meets the hallway. Also we bought some more of those tiles yesterday to get more of a feel of what it'll look like. It does look pretty good but it does worry us about what type of table and appliance colours we will be able to get and really making it all look a bit drab perhaps? We are leaning towards sticking with relaying the same times the house already has as we have been unable to find any better looking light grey tiles. We do really like them.

Maybe choosing a darker shade? If that is outdoor porcelain it can be difficult to clean, especially that colour. If the R Rating (non slip rating) is R13 it is massively non slip but that very fact makes it cling onto the dirt. Maybe go for a R11 rating? You could then get the same paving for indoors for that sleek look.
