Hallway woodwork dilemma.

I have oak coloured doors,architraves and skirtings, would it be best to paint the doors only or everything else in the same colour?

IMO architraves should match door colour. Skirtings should ideally match the doors and architrave, or if not, then match the wall colour.

Thank you minipie,
I just thought the white doors etc, against mid to dark grey walls would be too bright, also there are low ceilings!

I'm no expert but I think I would paint the walls stiffkey right up to the cornice to avoid that striped look (ie painting over the picture rail). Then do the cornice, ceiling and all woodwork (skirtings, door frames and doors) in Cornforth or blackened. Painting the doors in stiffkey (and therefore the door frames and skirtings too) is a real statement and I'm sure it would be very dramatic. It just depends on your style. Either way it's a beautiful hallway and will look great. Good luck with it!

I’m putting up another pic showing the through flow of my ground floor. It’s all very light walls and darker floors. The big splashback at the end which faces you from the kitchen is pale blue which does tie with the hallway at the moment. Any other ideas?

I agree with Minnie it's already looking lovely. I think a bit of texture would warm it up a bit. So I was going to suggest painting the door too and/or adding a door curtain - maybe a nice heavy velvet? Bottle green? You have a nice space to right hand side to pull the curtain over too. Also maybe a rug in front of the console table. I have a bit of an obsession with Persian style rugs as they can introduce lots of lovely warm, burnished type colours but that's just my preference. Something else on the floor would break up the coolness of the tiles - although you might have to experiment with some rug grips. Also some more art above radiator etc. It's already a very lovely hallway and so nice to have such a large space.

We’ve just swapped all our doors, skirting and architrave to Oak. They’ve been coated with Monocoat so shouldn’t need any further maintenance on them in our lifetime. Once you start painting them you’re back to the hassle of maintenance. Leave them as they are.

Thanks Daisy for your input.
All our ceilings are low with small widows is the main reason for the painting of woodwork, hopefully it should brighten all the rooms throughout.
