Ideas please - hallway, stairs and landing
Comments (9)Hi Laura, we’ve found that stairways are often overlooked, despite the fact that in many homes it’s the first thing people see when they walk in the door. Halls, stairs and landings are high traffic areas and need hard wearing, practical carpets with a good pile weight and density that maintain their appearance. It’s worth spending time and effort on this area to create an enticing entrance. Have you considered letting a simple striped carpet take centre stage? Our Avebury collection made from 100% pure new wool comes in either a neat, level loop pile or a textured loop pile and offers four tonal striped designs and eight plain, stylish shades that can be teamed together to work in the hall and up the stairs. Keep the décor classic with a light striped carpet teamed with soft neutral walls for a timeless feel. https://www.cormarcarpets.co.uk/product_avebury/product_avebury.php...See MoreHELP PLEASE!! Comments (17)I have a hall way very similar to yours, when we moved in it was painted white. I presume the previous owner wanted to improve light levels. It had the reverse effect! It made the space seem gloomier which may be related to the front of the house being north facing, what direction does your house face as this may influence paint choices. I love colour but go neutral in a space like a hall way as it links all the rooms in the house and in Victorian houses is very difficult to decorate, ceiling heights etc. We used Farrow and Balls London stone as it remained a true neutral,,many other beige/greige had pink/ purple tones which showed in artificial light. I agree with the other comments about stripping the doors particularly if you do decide on white, it will provide contrast and warmth. You could paint a darker colour beneath the dado rail. I would suggest careful placement of mirrors to maximise/ steal light from other rooms. Also pictures with glass bring light to the area too. You could mount pictures on the stair case in line with the treads. I agree with the earlier comment about mounts and frames. I would go for a runner to show off your lovely stair case. Does the door to your kitchen/diner have a glass panel (s) in it, if not I would suggest adding one or two depending on the type of original door you have that will pull light in from that room. Good lighting will help too, it all depends on your personal preference, you could have pendants downstairs and spotlights upstairs. Good luck with it and hope you enjoy the process...See MoreHelp needed to decorate stairs and landing.
Comments (4)I agree will Ellie. Stairs with no carpet are very loud. They seem quiet popular over in the states not sure how they dampen the noise? Maybe its our narrow hallways that make the noise bounce around? 1. It depends on how well they were painted to begin with. A better paint job will mean its harder to get the paint off. Also depends on how may layers it is. Best option would be to try one and then decide if your willing to put the same amount of work in for the rest. 2. You can get a company that does custom runners for your stairs. I good carpet fitter should also be able to do it. 3. Yes that could look great, but depends on your style and the look you are going for:...See Morehall, stairs and landing - colour help!
Comments (5)I would go with the light grey tones, as this will create a nice neutral overall base colour. Possibly even lighter than the image attached. This will allow you to bring colour in in other ways, and you will not limited by having to tie in with pink....See MoreDesign By Kurys
