curtain pole advice please
Hi there all.
We have finally almost finished our rear living room but struggling with how we will fit the curtains.
Sadly we didn't plan ahead properly as wanted to put Roman blinds up BUT there is nothing to hang them from in the window space. 1860 house with new Windows in - all fitted and sealed but no wooden 'things' under the boards to screw into.
I have attached the first photo to show the space - approx 240cm internal measurement and 280 edge to edge of architrave. obviously while we were part way through the work (both not great at diy and too poor to pay for decorators unfortunately).
The second photo is just to show it's a dark, cosy room. I have a large, dark charcoal corner sofa with colourful cushions and foot stool and I'm desperately seeking a colourful media unit and sideboard or something. Lots of colours going on the chimney breast with gallery pics etc.
Ideally we need to cover the windows for warmth being kept in and privacy but can't fit blinds, can't afford shutters (!) and don't know how we can put curtains up on this architrave?
I have googled but not having much luck.
can I get curtain pole brackets tgat fit to the top of the architrave - as in the parallel to the ceiling top section? approx 1 inch deep.
Please can anybody offer any guidance? Thank you in advance.

Comments (3)Hi Diana, Whenever I specify Roman Blinds I recess them into the window and put dress curtains on each side (not functioning, purely for show and to soften the look) The issue I have is that the failure rate on Romans is very high, the pull string mechanism is very delicate and can jam up after regular use. Given the choice I would not specify them. My preferred solution is to inset plantation shutters into each window and then dress the outside with a simple pair of dress curtains each side or a modern swag over the head. I have done this on traditional interiors and ultra modern and they always look good. I never have any ongoing issues and the light quality the blades give is wonderful. (I prefer a large blade and avoid the central pole in favour of a hidden mechanism.) Another interesting feature of plantation shutters is that in the evening you push the shutters up for privacy and this deflects the heat back into the room, it saves a lot of money !! Alternatively if you look around enough you might find a high street solution (probably a lesser quality metal pole) with corners that can be bent by yourself in a sort of hinged mechanism....See MoreWhat to do for curtains - advice please

I think adding an edge to simple but full linen curtains might be a good way of ensuring they're not just lost in what is quite a large room and I agree with you forzaitalia a pale shade would allow the rug to shine - thankyou so much for your pics and comment.
