Design Dilemma Kitchens

Kitchen colours

I’m trying to improve a kitchen on a low budget. Red cooker and cream shaker cabinets were there from previous owners and are not my choice but I don’t have the budget to completely change these, so I plan on hanging 2 new wall cabinets either side of extractor fan. Any suggestions for colour? Do I go with a similar shaker cream or something different, maybe simple white?

How about some natural wood shelves. It keeps the feel of your kitchen open. Cabinets would make your space feel smaller.

Looks like a lovely space. I agree with honeymummy - open shelving will look really good here (if you've got enough concealed cabinet space). Particularly like the dark walls behind the shelves like some of these pics

If its a dark room then reflective surfaces will help .. but maybe step back and look at the style before you introduce colour? The detail on the doors make it a bit dated for an ultra modern look, but a vivid color would change things up, where pastels and neutrals may feel a bit samey ! The granite top will cool anything down ... my suggestion is change the flooring and get the doors spray painted Red!

Hi. I agree with jacksplash and Man About the House - hopefully OnePlan will find you, because I'm worried about your layout. Some of the figures are difficult for me to read on your floor plan but I'm thinking about all the doors and where they lead and the traffic flow of people. Is there room to get around things, especially, say if the fridge door is open? Can someone get by or do they walk in front of the oven? If someone's cooking, is there room? If someone is at the sink, can another person walk by? If people are sitting at the new rectangular dining table, can you get passed to that side door, the double doors, or the door to the stairs? With the big fridge in that spot I'd do a practice and erect cardboard boxes that equal the depth of the fridge and more that represent the island and see if there really is room for it all. I prefer the off white colour for the cabinets too, but am puzzled by the marking on the associated quartz. Is that mark simply a reflection of the showroom lighting? I agree with others that it’s best to take samples home to view in the actual lighting conditions. If the marking is not a reflection, and the worktop is quite heavily grained, how will that sit with the granite splash-back?

Thank you both and I do agree with you. Though I am short on concealed food storage space which is why I was thinking about cabinets rather than shelves.

Lovely airy kitchen. I think shelving is great, but we all know how valuable storage is, so I would carry on with the cream unit on the wall. They are a nice pale cream so give you lots of options if you decide to decorate around them.

It's a lovely kitchen. I must admit aesthetically I would prefer shelves too, they would be in keeping with the style. Is there anywhere else food storage could go? Perhaps add other pics. I don't know if this would work for you but you could store crockery on the island (or the shelves) and therefore free up cupboard space for example
