Exterior Paint Colour
Comments (37)I don't know about colours. My suggestion (if you are going to paint two colours) is to paint the area below the trim under the large window the same colour as the rest of that wall. Paint only the recessed area of the front entrance and main floor window a different colour. It'll look more dramatic and clean if the second colour is only in the recessed area and doesn't spread to the other wall....See MoreImproving exterior of house
Comments (19)Could you afford to face the render with matching stone? If not the whole thing, then around the window and door to make them seem a lot larger than they are. Or paint around them if you can't afford the stone. Then paint the top half in a similar colour to your stone. The False mirrored window above is a great idea for upstairs! The door needs a horizontal porch roof - good suggestion near the top of these comments. ( Would be good to right across door and window too). Pots, plants, climbers. Paint that downpipe to blend in too, and can the wire be re-routed (paint it too) to follow the edges of the building....See MoreExterior design on a ex council home
Comments (36)White and brick is a classic and you really can't go wrong with it. But it does look a bit old and faded. Try looking up companies that do brick cleaning and sand blasting and perhaps reponting in a colour. (they mix the colour to match the bricks or another colour. The thin lines, when viewed from far, can alter the perceived colour of the bricks.- For example if you wanted a ';yellow brick house' but you 're stuck with brown, repointing in yellow will pick up the yellow tones in the brown brick and it will be yellow. Same goes for the other colours found in the brick. examine which colours are present in your current brick closely. Use a magnifying glass if you have to! You will be amazed and all the colours present in there. Then sandblast and have fun. Do this before you change the windows, as sand blasting can be damaging to the upvc, and then repoint after replacing windows. Depending on the colour the walls come out- Ask for samples on a north and south walls- then choose a black frame (for example with black poinitng) or white with the lighter colours. After a decade or two, then I would look at rendering, but for the moment, try the conservative route since the rendered look can't easily be reversed...See MoreExterior Design Ideas Please
Comments (21)Restrictive covenants have been mentioned but remember that cladding, render and replacement windows are all likely to require planning permission. I'm confused, though. Why buy a traditional style if you want a modern style place? I think fiddling around with grey window frames, modern plank doors etc will badly compromise the traditional style of the house and critically, may clash badly with neighbouring properties if it's part of a development. That's why covenants and requirements for permission exist. Therefore I would address a few key elements. The side panel on the front door looks awkward and spoils the proportions of the opening, so look to replace with a full width bespoke door in a suitable style. You could look at a vertical planked style if you want to modernise but a coloured finish would look better than a modern plank like teak. The arch over the door is also a poor feature, consider rendering inside it and painting it. The windows are a heavy design with bulky frames but are you really willing to go to the considerable expense of replacing them for looks alone? Final suggestion is invest in much more substantial pots/planters and shrubs. They will make a huge difference in softening the exterior and you could also consider digging out some of that heavy tarmac under the window to plant instead....See Moreamberly2100
