Unused fireplace in Kids bedroom - Ideas pls
Comments (25)Not sure what it's actually like inside, but I had an ugly fireplace to deal with in one of my houses in England, and since removing it wasn't in the budget at the time, I found a piece of artwork I liked that fit into the opening framed and stuck that in it, then put a plant on the hearth just in front and to one side of the artwork to give it a little bit of life/color/dimension. I do like the whiteboard idea, but you can also do colored chalkboard paint, if you want to add something other than black. Maybe pick out a color from the tiles and fit the new board a little better so it's nicely framed by the existing tile surround? (You do need to keep it a fairly dark color so the chalk shows, but it looks like there's a nice dark blue/green you could use based on the tiles? My laptop's color display is in 'night' mode so I can't tell exactly what shade the tiles are atm. They look sort of teal-ish to me. :) )...See MoreHow can I bring this kitchen to life?
Comments (28)Hi Daniel What a lovely light kitchen! I see you have decided to change the worktop which is a good idea if you don't like the existing (temporary fixes always seem to stay forever in my house, much better to go for a permanent solution if it's within budget!) if you like colours I think the suggested mustard yellow would be good, or teal works really well with white and wood. Also, you mentioned tiled wallpaper, how about some real tiles? I have a new kitchen too, it has very pale grey gloss units and a white quartz worktop and white walls (at the moment, eventually I'm planning to paint them dark grey). It's lovely but a little plain like yours. I found some lovely tiles which are white and grey which sounds very dull. It they introduce pattern which really ties it all together. I think you could choose some tiles with a nice pattern (they don't have to be brightly coloured if that's not your thing). You'd only need 2 rows, not all the way up to the upper units, introducing some pattern could really bring it to life. And perhaps some coloured chairs when you get round to thinking about furniture? Also, how about hanging a picture on the wall below the wall unit above the washing machine? I love a picture in a kitchen! Hope this helps, enjoy decorating your new home!...See MoreBring life to this Bedroom! Help!
Comments (17)I love the look you're going for so far, it looks very contemporary but i think it's lacking some of that vital 'pop' which makes the room really stand out. I have a couple of theories as to why this is; firstly, your colour scheme is very nice but is perhaps a bit lacking, resulting in a monochromatic palette which doesn't really do the space any favours. Take a look at some matching colour palettes for interior design here: http://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/Color-Palettes Secondly, I think the room is lacking a central focal point which grounds the rest of the interior design and complements it. Right now, I'm just seeing too much of an open space. I never thought I'd say this but you could do with a little bit of clutter! My attention is also drawn to the bed area. The bedside table is nice, but see-through lamp is very strange and doesn't add any warmth to the room a slighting should. Also the bed itself seems quite low and antiquated: you can find some great designer beds to match the glamourous look of the entire room, I would suggest there resources to start: http://www.andsotobed.co.uk/ http://www.livingspaceuk.com/ Hope this helps!...See MoreEclectic bedroom idea...advice pls!!
Comments (13)I'd have a quirky feature wall with the other walls a light blue! Then you could use different vintage pieces around the room. Alternatively, I would have a duck egg/light blue feature wall with a nice pattern and the other walls a light cream/white. Either way I would put your bed against the feature wall with some basic curtains....See MoreMarylee H
