Patio Drainage in front of Sliding Doors

Need advice on how you can run the patio right up to sliding door track - how do you account for the damp course on this?

You do a drainage track in front of the doors. The nicest products are from aquabocci, but a more discreet and cheaper option is a brick slot drain.

Hi Justin, thank you for taking the time to reply to our query. It is difficult to compare systems because Deceuninck have not published very much technical information about that specific product on their website, but whilst in general terms uPVC may be able to perform fractionally better for U-values than aluminium (it depends on the system), our experience is that with slide and swing doors the weather rating (water tightness, air permeability and wind loading) tend to be much lower. I would also query the information you were given about security. The reason I say that is I cannot find any reference to their slide & swing doors having been tested to PAS24 standards (Building Regs Doc Q) or Secured by Design award standards. The technology of slide and swing doors is developing quickly, but it is starting from nearly 25 years behind bifold doors so will take some time to catch up - that said they are moving along quickly and in certain circumstances offer an alternative to bifold doors. My husband and I were taking to companies about these doors at Grand Designs Live last weekend and everyone said they were fine until we got to the Velefac stand (Velux brand) who told us they used to make them like that but found them very unreliable with grit and wear on the seals, so now they make them mounted on the front of about a 25mm frame. We had our doubts before, but now I know whose windows we’ll be going with when we do the work, as the look is very similar and the last thing we want is problems with these huge windows and more building work. We had the very same dilemma. I wanted the option of being able to open the door slightly, rather than having to open up a whole panel. In the end I factored in that our house has a lot of glass in it, it’s south facing on the living areas all day long and therefore one of our problems was the house being too warm. It only takes the sun to be out and the sky bright to warm up the house, doesn’t have to be even warm outside - we still have sun in winter! We went for bi fold in the end and it was the best decision, there may be a week give or take when we haven’t had them open but just a week or so in 6 months. Have them opened up all the time, and a previous poster mentioned about flies, it’s true, no flies stuck in the house ( incidentally a bonus). Hi! A belated thank you to everyone who helped me finally make a decision! I went with a 3 pane sliding door (on a 3.7m opening) allowing me to open over half the width. I figured that with bifolds you would still have the frames stacked to one side which takes up a chunk of the opening as well. I chose the XP Glide from Express Bi-folds. Have found them professional and easy to deal with, we are just awaiting delivery now! The only bug I had is that their choice of handles were pretty basic, either a chunky (in my view an eye sore!) steel bar or a regular lever handle. They only come in black, grey or white! I was initially going with a very sleek 2 pane sliding door from Ultraline that had an integrated handle within the frame but the cost was too high for me to change it to a 3 pane. If I had the budget though I would have gone with them instead. Express Bi-folds do a slimmer framed option than XP Glide, I think it is called XP Panoramic. The 3 pane was more than Ultraline I think though. The consultant at Express-Bi-folds also advised against slimmer framed bonded glass options as if for any reason you damage the glass you have to replace the whole frame as well which is a major structural headache. Most slim framed options use this method though (as opposed to beaded - correct me if I am wrong!) so I would have chosen to ignore his advice if my budget allowed :-)
