Pendants above island height

They have started installing our kitchen and now we're wondering what height our pendant lights should be at, given the height of the other things in our kitchen? Any advice or rules that we should follow? I think our bulkhead being as low as it is, doesn't help things. See attached image of the partially installed kitchen. Has anyone got any photos of a similar layout/height/pendant lights? Thanks.

I think you can usually adjust the length of the pendant to suit when its all done.

Hi, pendant lights will work as long as they are adjustable in height and not too bulky. We have a range of pendants that are adjustable in height and work well in kitchens with low ceiling. The Pooky website had loads of lovely lights. Wow! I also received some suggestions on another thread. I trawled through lots of websites today! I combined some ideas into a collage. Any thoughts? The dark pewter pendant is what I'm trying to co-ordinate with (I love the matt grey finish and its shape), whilst not losing the light airy feeling of the new living area with it's pitched roof, and large windows/doors. Hence why I thought about a glass pendant. But using glass pendants was just an idea. I'm open to other ideas. I also wondered if I should look at some "Hamptons style lights"? I like a timeless, calm, look.

How about looking at the Levello lighting system - you can choose to use downlights, fixed, adjustable, or change to pendants whenever you feel like it without having to call out an electrician. You can even purchase your own pendants and hide the ceiling cups completely so they look like they are floating. Take a look at our new handmade bespoke ultra-thin idea book for some almost flat pendants. We can make them in virtually any material - steel, wood, acrylic.. although the Oak ones are my personal favourites. I guarantee you, nobody has these yet!

It really depends on how high your ceilings are and the type of look you are going for. Will they make a statement or are they purely functional? I'd usually go for pendants with fixed shades because I'm usually committing to a style and I've chosen something I truly love. However, you can get some beautiful glass shades from places like made.com . Bottom of our Island pendants are 90 cm above the worktop

Thanks, Ellie. If I was to do 90cm above worktop, that would leave 37cm from the bottom of the bulkhead. And if the pendant light was 17cm high then that would leave a cord if just 20cm. Is that going to look silly?

You only have 127cm height above your worktop? Mmmm, yes I think that wouldn't look right. Try a bit lower then? As long as you don't hit your head! I really don't like downlights/spotlight but this might have been the ideal here?
