Could you please tell me the dimensions of the individual tile, and the material? Is it marble? Porcelain?

Thank you so much! The angle of the photo made the tiles look larger, so I’m glad to hear they are a common size.

I think the black and white scheme looks really striking against the tile floor. Is it particularly the cage lights that are trendy at them moment that you like or is it the industrial trend generally that you'd like to incorporate? Maybe there's something with a more 1930's industrial feel that would sit well against the period features? Or alternately just go for it but the more modern the better if wanting to juxtapose old and new. Nothing to subtle - big and bold cage style light could work. You could have one made up with 1930's style Bakelite fittings with a gorgeous coloured cord to pick up the red in the tiles. There are many companies that supply these fittings or you might find something suitable on Etsy. Good luck with your project :-)

I say do it! I had a tiny lobby area on a house I have just sold. I was surprised at how many viewers complemented them. It adds a little ping of interest when the rest of your flooring is "un-patterned" (if there is such a word!) I attach a photo although excuse the spartan furnishings and curtains as some items already removed. You can just about see the tiles in the lobby. I added a couple of the tiles under the electric fire in the foreground for continuity.

Hi guys, thank you so much for all the comments! The sash windows in the bay are the original single glazed windows. We ale planning to replace them with timber double glazed sash windows and definitely change the colours of the doors and bay :) ED and Sarah U-S, do you think that the top bay was added later on? It has the same single glazed sash windows as the bottom one.

Original Style have some beautiful things and you could do well to look there. I don’t work for them and have no connections to them but I’ve found them immensely helpful lately (I live within reasonable distance from their Bournemouth store). My first encounter with them was about 20 years ago. (And ask for a discount…you never know! )
