Bathrooms Design Dilemma

large Bath vs sauna?

Planning a bathroom renovation. Struggling to understand bath sizes not being able to go look in showrooms. Would you prefer:

Large jacuzzi bath (up to 1.2m wide x 2m long)
Double sink
walk in shower 900 x 900

OR

Bath (900w x 2m long)
Standard sink 600
900 x 900 shower
900 x 900 sauna

The master has a shower room if that makes any difference

Unless you have specific needs or criteria for these dimensions, I don’t think you necessarily need a bath as wide as 90cm, let alone 1.20 M.

2 M in length is quite generous also.

these sizes mean a great volume of water to fill a bath.

I would probably make the shower larger, since you have the space, perhaps 1.20M X 90 cm although 90x90 is fine too.

On the other hand a sauna of 90X90 cm seems small to me.

Ideally you should measure in mm (the professional way 🙂)

Btw, who is ‘the master’? 😆

Aha, only one master here - he’s 4 legged & fluffy!

Sorry, I mean the space where the bath will go is 1200 wide x 2100 long - so any bath size up to this will work. What would be classed as a very big in width?

I agree about sauna - what would ideal size for this be? Problem is because of the door & window, the layout is making it difficult to increase the size of this

Free standing baths are only suitable for larger rooms where you have the ability to position the bath with free access all the way round, I regularly remove them from smaller bathrooms when doing re-fits, people like the aesthetics of the free standing bath and plough ahead and install them against a wall, the result is a disgusting accumulation of dust, fluff, pubic hair etc, this will happen quite quickly and you will regret having gone down this route. The concept of having the bath with no curtain is interesting though, in a bathroom around 2.1m square, most of the bathroom will be effected by splashing, the room will need a wet room floor former, and will require that the whole room is tanked prior to tiling, have a look at. (http://www.wetroominnovations.com) I usually use their Maxus formers and Purus gully traps. you can indeed get a flexible waste connection, have a look at McAlpine "Flexcon" range, these are available through any reputable merchants, these are quite substantial and would stand up to semi regular movement, if your free standing bath is an acrylic bath it won't be too heavy, so moving it would be quite straight forward, but I would suggest having small felt pads on the feet to protect the tiled surface, also from a drying point of view, Karcher have a very good little gadget for cleaning windows, which vacuums up the water, I often mention it to clients and any who have bought one have been delighted at how easy it is to use, it will leave the floor almost dry once you have used it, one note of caution would be your choice of floor tile, you will need a porcelain tile that has an R rating, this is a slip resistant rating and would be most advised. another note of caution, because the splashing will not be controlled, any vanity or wood based furniture will deteriorate. You can use side panels or a deck/surround to create what is, in effect, a free standing bath that would work well aesthetically and, optionally, as part of a wetroom-style bathroom. Deep soaking tubs are especially effective for such projects; they have smaller footprint, which affords more room in the shower area, but their greater depth makes them exceptionally comfortable.

I have had one for many years and could not possibly live without it. The feeling of relaxation you get after a proper sauna session has no equal and the health benefits are proven. It is more economic to install one than you might think but you do need to have the space. Most hotel/gym saunas are not hot enough so you simply end up feeling clammy rather than reinvigorated in the way that a real sauna makes you feel. Personally I hate hot tubs and find them unhygienic but saunas are wonderful.

You need a pretty impressive water heating system to fill a bath like that too !
