I’m looking for help decorating the key rooms and generally setting the tone. We are unlikely to complete until July so we have time just want to get my head around what needs doing/buying and what of my existing furniture I should keep/sell.

If I'd had full length panels I might have gone for wider slats but with tier on tier the panels are smaller so I only got a few slats in each. It didn't look right. Also wider slats need offsetting more to avoid catching on window handles which mean frame sticks out more. Hopefully photo explains that.

Hi One Plan...I know, and I agree that it seems strange but here’s the thought process. I’m 52, recently single and so it might well be my long term home and what’s important right now and what I can afford. I could extend the mortgage to do a full side return but that would make my monthly payments strangling as I also need to think about how long I’m going to keep working. What’s important is having entertainment space - which I can’t create currently so this was my next. Thought ( or move to something already suited to me but with stamp duty etc that works out just as expensive unless I move much further out and I’ve pretty much ruled that out. It’s a amazing flat loads of storage ( basement) and huge garden and prime location so I’m trying to make it perfect for me ( not necessarily resale atm).

Well, it’s done now. Window company 1, charging £32,000, has very nice windows indeed. Company 2, charging £17,000, has okay windows. Co 1 has this súper thin sliding doors, and I just did it notice the handles. We then visit we co 2 and there were these chunky handles, and chunky divider in the sliding doors, though we’re talking 4.5cm versus 2cm. If I was rolling in money and didn’t have a whole lot of other work to do, I’d say let’s go with number 1, but it’s hard to justify twice the price for a slighter thinner frame and windows which over all jut look nicer.... isn’t it?!
