Kitchen flooring dilemma

Hi, can anyone please advise on the best kind of kitchen flooring to put down?
I love the wooden parquet look but have heard that Karndean scratches quite easily. I’d happily have tiles but a few have said they are a nightmare if you drop anything. Does anyone have any suggestions/preferences or advice? Thanks very much 👍

I'm about to go old school and board the original floorboards, then add sheet vinyl. I did it in my bathroom and it looks ace, warm and very wood-like. Plus, it's cheap as chips!

I would suggest porcelein wood effect tiles too. They are tough and easy to clean and some are incredibly realistic. They come in every colour from white to deepest mahogany. I always think wooden look floors look so good wth grey or blue units. My stepdaughter has them with UFH and she is very pleased With them. Walls - i actually like white, but you could go pale grey and paint one or two end walls in a bolder colour? Wall tiles are a very personal thing, but how about small geometrics in white? fran11home the tiles are made by Marazzi these particular ones are their treverkever sand ones though they have a full range on their website. In the UK I ordered mine from CTD tiles

Pros for wood: warmer underfoot, no need to transition to elsewhere. Cons: risk of water damage, denting if items dropped. Pros for tiles, easy to clean, no risk of water damage, marks kitchen area from rest of the house, wide range of colours / finishes. Cons: cold underfoot, crockery / glasses will smash if dropped, transition to other flooring. Have you considered LVT? It could give you the benefits of tile & wood & could be used throughout to avoid the transition from one flooring type to another.

Hey Nick, I've just quickly laid out how I think you could get the most out of your kitchen & dining extension. Depending on how much storage you need, you can increase the units on either side of the kitchen area. As shown, you'll have a good amount in the base cabinets, island & potentially around the fridge area (shown next to the understair pantry). The island grounds your kitchen & creates a relaxed vibe throughout. You can choose to wash your dishes on the island or cook your meals, both possibilities come with room for company opposite your task of choice & storage below. We always suggest having your dining table closest to your outside views. Whether you're eating breakfast or hosting a dinner, looking out to a stunning garden is always a plus. I've also marked a little bench with under-seat storage if you fancy a little kitchen reading nook. Have you checked out Luxury Vinyl Tile? There are tonnes of options across budgets, you can them laid how you want and some really great wood look options. They come in different thickness and some with a soft cushion layer. Some are stick down whilst others are a lock system. Pretty easy to install and change too.

Porcelain tiles are very tough and easy to care for. They come in so many configurations from natural stone look to wood effect. Yes if you drop a cup or a plate it will smash but unless you are someone who constantly drops things it’s no big deal! Here’s some examples of porcelain tiling.

Thank you so much Sonia, I didn’t realise you could get porcelain tiles in a wood effect - they look great. Hmm I have been known to drop a few cups and glasses in my time though 🤦🏻‍♀️ Thanks for the idea though, I’ll look into it! x

I have dark hardwood flooring in the kitchen. It’s beautiful but a complete nightmare to keep clean. Every crumb is visible. I cannot wait to replace it with something lighter.
Separately we put down a bit of vinyl off the kitchen to the back door ( to cover hideous board tiles) and I’m delighted with it. Best £30 ever spent!

Thanks @izzyjenes been in the house 2 1/2 years and can’t believe we didn’t do it earlier. The whole house (apart from kitchen) is the original floor boards. We decided to carpet a couple of the bedrooms and there was a pile of vinyl ends and we were surprised at the selection. I’m defo going to consider vinyl when we do our kitchen ( no time soon).
