I cant figure out how to send a private message either! £15k on interior design / space planning alone was our budget for a 5 bedroom house refurbishment - I would say that ours definitely isnt ’light touch’ though - we get everything from the from the paint specification to a shopping list for every room and then a styling trip to come and do all of the finishing touches. Every room has everything from the floor covering to the window treatments to the files and designs for bespoke furniture. All rooms come with proffesional lighting plans, which can be handed over to an electrician. We paid around £3k for the structural engineer and £1k for the architect. We managed the project ourselves, so I dont have a comparison for that element i’m afraid but I certainly dont think that number looks unreasonable. I would definitely find out exactly what you are going to get for that money but honestly, presuming that the house is of significant value and your build cost is also significant (clearly important for spend to be relative) then that doesnt seem to be an unfair cost to me. Getting your space planning and interior design right, is a massive part of any project and can vastly change the look and feel of the finished house. We’ve all seen examples where people have spent A LOT of money on major reburbishments and the end result just looks a bit ’blah’ - its there in my opinion that an extra 5–10% of the overall cost would have completely transformed and ’polished’ the final result. Appreciate design is not possible for everyones budget but if its a possibility for you and you like the quality of their work, then I dont think that figure is out of the way.

Hi Susan, Thanks for the additional information. As others have indicated, 1000mm wide (or occasionally 1200 wide) tend to be the maximum for singe unit, double door pantry units as an "off the shelf" configuration - this is due to the typical maximum door width being 600 wide, above which you can have structural issues. You can get wider - usually though only as top/bottom split pantries, and then with bifold doors on each side, but you are usually hitting another price point. DIY are generally amongst the most competitve on raw price - they are a "stack it high, sell it cheap" operation who do all they can to squeeze every ounce of cost out of their direct-to-customer operation. As a result, however, the onus is on you for everything - ensuring the design fits, is fit for purpose etc. You therefore take on all design, fit & installation risk, and if things go awry, then the remedial hassles (and costs) sit firmly with you. If you are comfortable managing all of this, then you can potentially grab a bargain - as long as you execute well! Their internal options do tend to be rather basic and as far as I can see, theil larder is plain shelves. Regarding your options - sometimes to build up to the sort of width you have to play with, you can opt either for 2x 800 wide pantries, or a 1000w plus another 500 or 600 - the image below was an installation we did with a butler's pantry flanked by a fridge freezer (1000 & 600 wide respectively). Or a 1000w flanked on either side by a 400w unit - either in plain shelves (to keep costs down) or with internal drawers. Just awaiting confirmation on the offers I mentioned, but with that particular offer and depending on configuration, the list price for various Butler's Pantries with "fancier" internals should certainly be in the range you seek. It can still vary quite a bit - the more fancy internals you have (wicker baskets, solid oak door racks etc), the higher it would be. Do you already have a design you are looking to use? If you wish to get in touch, I'm more than happy to see if we can assist. If the offer comes out at the price point I am hoping, you will have the opportunity to get a really good quality, British made kitchen with excellent warranty in solid wood shaker doors in either Lissa (honeyed) or "Sand" solid oak. Carcasses are very well made, internals are all branded Blum or Grass (2 excellent makes) with 15 year warranty on door and 20 on carcasses & internals.
