Triangular back garden design help
Comments (26)I agree with Bespoke Interiors Redbridge UK, definitely put in full height fences, not trees. If the neighbours are problematic (sounds like they're related to mine), the fences will be a safer option than trees that shed leaves/fruit which they might take issue with. Fences also take up less room in a small garden. My garden is only 3m wide, and I have full height fences on both sides. You can paint them or whitewash them if light is an issue, though I have left mine to silver naturally (I just like the look). Get the kids involved in gardening and put raised beds in front of the fences: I am training berry plants up the fences, so they will be green and leafy once the (currently 18 inch tall) plants grow in. Sunflowers are also great to grow along fences and there are plenty of climbing or tall edible plants like sweet peas, maize and tomatoes that are easy for kids to look after (and snack on!). Be careful of getting any evergreen hedges. I have a school one side and have had to ask them to really cut back their leylandii hedge, which has been horribly neglected for years, and it's now getting close to 3.5m tall (guidelines say no more than 2m). It's expensive to cut them back if they have been neglected, so you may be setting yourself up for a big bill down the line....See MorePatio shading on single storey extension and bifolds
Comments (19)Ha I could have written this post myself! We also have a single storey extension with integral blinds in our 4m bifold doors...our garden is west facing meaning sun all afternoon/evening. We looked at cantilever parasols last weekend but I am just not sure...it would be upwards of £1k. Our air con is being hooked up next week so at least we will be cool when the bifolds are closed but that doesn’t solve the issue of wanting to enjoy the doors open when we want. I also looked at awnings but we have downlighters in our soffits which we wouldn’t be able to use. Decisions decision.......See Morewindow advice on south facing extension...
Comments (23)Hi Tani Our garden is west facing & we have a window either side of the bifolds. We chose not to have roof openings to avoid extra heat from the sun. We are also considering adding an pergola/awning or something similar so that we can have the blinds open in summer without the hot sun streaming in. I am not a fan of hot weather (hence the integral blinds & air con) so avoid it as much as possible. I’m a bit confused what you mean about access to the traffic door...ours is by the kitchen end & is ideal. I’ve added a few pics so you can see our set up....See MoreMy lounge needs more natural light
Comments (20)You can add skylights to the sloped roof sections on each side without taking down the entire ceiling. You will need your builders to create a deep plasterboarded reveal (like a tapered tunnel) leading from each skylight to the ceiling. Like this This is likely to be a lot cheaper and easier than removing the entire ceiling - plus there are almost certainly structural roof supports running across above the ceiling that will be exposed if you remove the ceiling. I would also definitely get your husband to reconsider the outdoor covered structure if you can as it’s not helping! What does he love about it? Perhaps there is something less light obstructing it could be replaced with? An awning or a shade sail that comes down in the winter?...See MoreBeth H. :
