Radiator help!! please :-)

Hi,

I have recently had a couple of radiators fitted and instead of the pipes coming up from the floor, the pipes/hoses come out of the wall. This is fine in itself BUT it’s left an unsightly whole under the radiator which is visible and on the one rad, you can see the hose flex hanging down :-(
Does anyone have any ideas on how to hide/cover this?? Thanks a million :-)

I agree with the comments about covering whatever you have with a radiator cover - to reduce ugliness and provide a really useful shelf above. However, whether you go down that route or not, the location is a super-important aspect. Mine is in exactly the wrong place - and it was my decision - and I regret it every day. The trouble is that it took a lot of drilling through concrete below original terracotta tiles (I had no idea it would mean that) so if I move it again it means more wrecked floor and how the pipes would work is impossible to imagine. I can't cover it up with a cover as it is in a small corner next to the front door and fits the space exactly, end to end. A cover would stop the door from opening. I had hopeless advice from the plumber installing the radiator; advice I have to live with - bitterly. Mine is in a hall like yours with the radiator opposite yours but facing the hall (my window is half length). I didn't want it where yours is as I thought it would protrude just where people arrive or leave. I reckon yours is in the right place; it just needs to be prettied up a bit.

Hi Colourhappy, it is Purbeck Stone, which was chosen by our super interior designer (Gina from Create Perfect on here). She's teamed it with shadow white on the ceiling and Wimborne White on the woodwork. The base of the fireplace is in Ammonite. We think it looks beautiful- such a warm and contemporary grey. Excuse the state of the floorboards- they need a good clean as are covered in dust from all the rubbing down of the paintwork but here's another couple of pics now the second coat is on. There will also be a large rug under the sofas to break up the brown of floorboards and the sofas Just waiting to put up our new radiators and Best Heating yes of course I'll share some pics once the radiators go up tomorrow!

Manual radiator valves - idiot’s guide....help

Just moved into our new house - all the radiators have lovely traditional looking valves - except they are manual not thermostatic (brand new). I’ve only ever had thermostatic (with the numbers) so I’m finding it hard to get my head round how to adjust the temperature of the radiators... I know that clockwise=lower and anti-clockwise=higher. I understand that each valve does different things - and I would basically love to have someone explain the easiest way of adjusting the temp of our radiators..... thank you!!

Haven’t installed yet, so can’t tell you how effective it is! I’m also installing a single room heat recovery ventilation unit, as the room will be reasonably air tight and well insulated.
