White paint doesn’t look white

Hi

I’m trying to paint over some light grey silk paint on a bedroom wall. I’m using dulux white silk paint over the top. After three coats it is definitely lighter than it was but it just looks like a lighter shade of grey than the original colour that was there. I want a bright white colour and it is definitely not that. Should I use Matt paint instead?

Hi, did you use Brilliant White paint? Did you use a roller?

Hi, I did the first two coats with a roller then tried a brush to see if that would be better. I’ve used Dulux pure brilliant white in silk.

Lou, from personal experience, the best paints for halls are those made for bathrooms and kitchens, as they are harder to scratch and wipe-able :)) Or that Diamond Tough from Dulux; you can also wash the walls painted in it - best even, buy the Trade Diamond. I can't tell you how many times I took a wet sponge to my hall walls to get rid of some stain... https://www.dulux.co.uk/shop/interior-paints/endurance-plus-matt I'm no paint specialist, but I tend to like Dulux light&space; they are all pale coloured off whites. Our kitchen is painted in Dulux Pacific Breeze but nobody can tell, they think is white until they look at where the wall meets the ceiling. I think you just need a lighter version of grey. This three colours will be very elegant together. I'll have my kitchen wall grey too, white flooring and wenge kitchen furniture. And some yellow here 'n' there...

Jonathandb1972, I was thinking of going with a grout that is the same colour or lighter than the grey tile. The hex will be grouted in a medium grey. This has already been done in the loo (the hex) and looks great. Neither are grouted in the above picture. Do you think there will still be issues with where the grout lines are if they are the same or lighter than the tile? Also, where the hex tile in the shower meets the grey tile will mainly be covered by the shower's profile. However, the shower only goes up to about 2m, so there will still be a visible "meeting" of tiles above that. My builder is a little concerned about how this will look as he will have to cut small pieces of tile to fill up the edge, which may stain once they start grouting. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best...

Finally getting around to thinking about finishing the painting again ... and I went to b&q but all the white masonry there was pure white or yellow toned. Got some card samples of valspar but wow - it’s expensive and can’t decide between some. I have a Johnstone’s and dulux paint mix service closer to me and they mix F&B colours at Johnstone’s. Wondering if Wimbourne white is any good??? I tried emailing K rend AGAIN to ask what paint matches their pure white render (which is just off white) but no response. Any experience with wimbourne? Is it a warmer/softer not blue white than timeless?

Does your paint need a good stir?

I had something similar happen using Matt Dulux recently. The paint was watery rather than its usual creamy consistency and went on like a blue varnish rather than paint. After a good stir it thickened up and went on a treat with the usual 2 coats doing the job.
