Garden design on a budget, blank canvas

I have removed all vegetation and had digger flatten this area of my bungalow. I now need to out it back together! I'm hoping to lay patio parallel to rear of bungalow (where the sand base is, it was a patio previously) as french doors will open onto that area. Other than that I'm not sure! need some turf, poss some gravel areas. might leave behind garage as chipings/gravel/planting area. any ideas welcome!
I have quotes to repair/straighten fences, replace gravel boards and wood panels on right side. was thinking paint the back gravel board fence a charcoal grey.
would LOVE any suggestions please.

I would plant Pyracanthus (Firethorn) all along the back fence for permanent greenery, white blossom in spring and red or orange berries in winter. It will also give you privacy and security. Do it ASAP so that it can get established. I think the size and positioning of the shed is key. Ideally it should lose itself within the planting. Maybe in the left-hand corner with roses and clematis trained over it so that it will blend in. I like the idea of a circular lawn edged with sunken bricks flush with the soil which will make mowing easier. I think the circle should come from the patio so that the corner of the patio goes to the centre of the circle (difficult to describe :( ) The edge of the circle could go as far as the shed or close. The remaining areas of soil would be flower beds and should be planted with a mixture of evergreens and herbaceous plants and shrubs with the lowest growing plants nearest the brick edge of the circle. Ideally there should be more climbing plants to clothe the fences so that they too disappear. (I can suggest plants if you are interested). The pond can be fitted into one of these areas too depending on it's size and safety factors such as the age of your children. At this planning stage it would be wise to think about electricity in the garden. Maybe you will want the pond to have a water feature? Also outdoor lighting, particularly up lighting will bring another dimension into your garden and give you an outdoor living space on summer evenings and it is very useful to have a light and power supplying the shed.

Hi Amanda you have a big enough garden to rearrange everything,what about putting the shed on the right hand side of the lounge patio door side as you can get a shed made to fit or have some one build one for that space for bikes and tools etc. You could have a lovely size patio going from the kitchen straight across and leading to the lounge area, A patio path leading down to the lower part of the garden with areas to sit and have a canopy for the kids to play under made from timber or metal which are reasonable to buy as a kit form. You could have some raised beds plus a planting area or rock feature you could have a wall with a water feature it all depends on your budget. I am at home tomorrow i will try and spend an hour and do a quick 3d design for you to give you more ideas Kind regards dean.

Hello Sarah-Marie Westgate, Just reading your dilemma, there are a lot of questions that go through my mind to ascertain some more points of view from you, but I spare you the inquisition. Hi there, Your idea for your seating area location looks good if you would like to sit in a sunny area (taking your garden aspect into account). A pergola with retractable roof could also work well. A shade sail is a less bulky alternative that could provide you with some shelter from drizzle and light rain as well. I didnt really understand what you meant by "the 2X2 space" where you want to have a shed or utility features? Is it the space by the side of what will be your utility room or in front of it? I agree with Christine. You don't necessarily need to have lawn in your garden. Wide planting beds with a well thought of and placed planting scheme that takes your garden conditions and aesthetic principles into account could potentially add more interest than a lawn with narrow borders on the sides (could also potentially make your garden look wider if the shapes of the borders are chosen correctly). Wide borders combined with a path of some kind could also create a journey through your garden, and again, with well chosen forms, make your garden feel bigger.
