Art Deco Fireplace
Comments (12)I recommend, because of the Spanish/ Mexican themes I can spot within the fireplace I would add colourful tiles around the fireplace to make it the centre of attention and to make it more interesting. However, considering that this is a living a would recommend terracotta or a warm subtle vermillion colour, or if you prefer bright colours I would either go with turquoise, pink, red, green or dark blue. I would not recommend yellow as yellow is a bit garish and would not compliment the fireplace whatsoever. The same with gold really. Personally I would choose red for the walls :) Hope this helps :) Dark wooden furniture might also go with the colours :) A mirror above the fireplace would also add a lovely touch by extending the lights so it wouldn't be too dark :)...See MoreWhat type of art do you have in your home?
Comments (26)As someone who taught Textile design on a degree course (before retirement) and prior to that worked in a famous national gallery, I have extremely eclectic taste. I have work painted by myself, work collected from other artists, limited edition prints, framed ephemera, and even two very large antique Victorian watercolors in gold frames - which I wouldn't probably buy these day, but do provide a bit of "weight" and gravitas in rooms. I like to put them against ultra modern lighting and pieces of furniture to give a bit of edge and conversely, put modern art against a couple of pieces of antique furniture we have....See MoreBest colour for displaying art
Comments (10)Hi Emily. I specialise in colour theory which I teach to MA and BA students. I think it all depends on what you are displaying. If I was displaying a huge red painting I would never hang it on a white wall as this to me would create too much contrast and make the red look dark. Hanging it on a darker wall (especially with the complementary undertone - green) would make the red glow. Comments (2)What about displaying a mixture of quirky, fun or heirloom plates? Maybe from holidays destinations, or made by your children at the local ceramic workshop, or just found in the charity shops? I saw a few pictures lately, and thought it was such a fun alternative way to art in a kitchen! They can also bring in fresh & crazy colours which you wouldn’t dare using otherwise on a bigger scale!...See MoreNicola M
