What colour would you paint these walls?

Please go easy on me, I don't have an eye for this sort of thing at all. We've moved into an old renovated farmhouse and this room is so bland.
The furniture is staying but I want to bring some colour to walls.
I also need a large rug for the floor, I want it big enough to go under the front feet of the sofas.
I think I also need some curtains or blinds up!

I am taking away the picture in the 2nd photo and replacing it with 3 portrait pictures, and I want to put a large brass mirror over the fireplace.

Please ignore the baby fire guard!

I have the same. Look on my ideas book 'my house project' and it shows what I have done. Painted Portland Stone (little Green) and tiles the same colour. It is much warmer that it was. I have complemented with turquoise, greens and mustards.

If you have white tiles, then paint the walls white. Hi Nicky, my apologies I have only just seen your message. We went for cornforth white Farrow and Ball (which it definitely not white). The shutters are not back open yet but some of them will need to go back on because the large expanses of grey look very grey. The bits next to the white look less austere. The new white garage door with windows has made a big difference. I'd be careful with a very pale grey because if your windows are anything like mine you'll find that they are not actually that white after all....

The dining area and the other area could be from two different houses. There’s definitely nothing modern about the dining area. Build in storage (cupboard on the bottom, shelves to the height of the picture rail) on each side of the fireplace. Change the chairs to a much simpler style. The cottage/country table cloth should be changed out for something less busy. If building storage isn’t possible, reduce what’s on the shelves and clear off the mantel.
